I have a small update on these...still looking to streamline my process a bit,  but in the meantime,  I was finally able to get ATS-002 finished off.  It is already sold,  so don't ask.

This one is fully loaded with a TriCree XPE2 RGB led, a Crystal Shard 2.5,  In-hilt recharge and RICE ports:

I also installed a mega-bass speaker:

Because of the inside diameter of this one (it is 1.18"), the speaker was a little too large in diameter to have a holder,  so it floats in the saber and is protected from shorting by wrapping it in pvc heat shrink. The pvc retainer clip helps hold it in place.

SD card access:

This one was a prototype,  and is not indicative of how the final version will look/function.

Activated:

These are still a work in progress,  and I am working on getting caught up on other things so I can return to taking orders through FX-Sabers for saber work next year. I have one of these left from the initial batch of prototypes,  and will try to get it done before the end of October and up for sale in the Trade Federation.

Okay,  as noted in my build log topic,  I am working on 4 more of these. Some progress pictures (hosted on google photos,  click the links):

The saber in the back of thr row will be paintef black and will have the same style of cut-outs in the rear grip section as ATS-002 had, as will the brass one in the foreground.  Plans for electronics are for now,  CSv4's,  Tri-Cree RGB's and 18650 3400mAH li-ion cells from TCSS. The brass one is heavy...used a thicker tube size than the last one,  I hope I can get the aluminum blade socket sanded down enough to fit.

I found some time today to work on #4 from this batch:

I painted the main body black and cut the slots in the rear grip.  These turned out pretty nice,  although they are still obviously hand cut. They're not as straight as I'd like them,  but I fear further work could result in going too far with the gaps and ruining the part.

There are some scratches that showed up on the switch body during sanding...not sure where they came from...I don't recall the part getting dropped or chattering in the vise while drilling it. Might have been there in the part before I even cut it from the tube.

I'm not sure how this scratch happened,  either,  but it should sand and polish out.

Next up,  I'll cut the grip slots for the brass saber. The other two are pretty much finished,  and are awaiting electronics and drilling and tapping for the blade thumbscrews.

I had some time and energy to work on a couple of the sabers from the last batch this week:

This one is loosely based on the BTS prototype I built last years,  but is much closer to how I'd build any more in the future.

It is pretty much ready for electronics,  I just have to decide where and what type of AUX button to use.

Electronics for this one will be a cree RGB XPE2 blade led, Crystal Shard 4.0, illuminated gold AV switch, TCSS 18650 3400MaH li-ion cell and a mega bass speaker.

The next one is the basic hilt design of the standard ATS series:

It is almost ready for electronics as well,  but also needs a final sand and polish before assembly. Elecetronics plans for this one are the same as the brass version.

  • Congratulations! You are being rescued.
Nice. Are the main bodies on the BTS ones brass PC?

I find your arguments vague and unconvincing.

Quiet! *Slap* And there’s a fresh one if you mouth off again.

No, real brass tubing making them fairly heavy.
