accurate TFA Graflex / ANH ESB TFA research / reference photos
« on: February 10, 2016, 03:27:46 PM »
so I've been looking around for good photos and doing research for seeing the differences in the 3 main versions of the Graflex ANH ESB and TFA  and those looking for good reference photos here is what ive managed to dig up

first of are three from Roy's Wannawanga

http://

the ANH version glass eye beertab seven grips with 30 degree angels on the ends amd normal D-ring and bubble strip and clamp on the left

http://

the ESB version with two red Graflex buttons with no beer tabs 6 T-grips with notches and set screws and kobold D-ring and circuit card and clamp on the right

http://

then TFA with glass eye and graflex button with beer tab 6 notched T-grips with set screws but they are a little shorter than  the ESB grips a 3mm gap on both sides kobold D-ring and circit card with clamp on the right

the next picture below is the cross section of TFA graflex

http://

then i found this from the visual dictionary

http://

and lastly the actual Graflex from TFA on display at what i think was star wars celebration

http://

this is all i managed to find if anyone else finds some more reference photos for any of the 3 Graflex versions feel free to add then to this post

the first one is kinda suspect because at the time of production (when they made the prop) they didn't know if they were gonna make another, it was just called 'star wars' not ANH so hats interesting

Yeah, the name A New Hope wasn't added on till later. If somehow you can find the original theatrical version of the movie you'll notice its the only of the 6 (well, now 7!  :cheesy: ) that doesn't have a movie title before the scrolling synopsis at the beginning.

Correct me if I am wrong. I remember reading that the saber prop from TFA Graflex was the same one used in ESB just with some modifications.

You're correct, the most significant modification is the return of the glass eye as opposed to a second red button which was seen in ESB

Awesome! Weren't their multiple props for ESB, but some were stolen, and I believe this one was stolen, but recovered and used for TFA.

so its a vintage vintage Graflex?? sweet. seriously people stole them? that sucks i saw in an interview that the sabers used in TFA for the duels actually lit up and they were super bight so the light shining on there faces during the battels look as real as possible and then they made them ever brighter after editing the scenes and stuff to make them look real it was in interview with Boyaga i think

Yeah, I think they had multiple made, but some were stolen and others just lost. I saw some behind the screen footage and it appeared the sabers were actually lit up during filming and then edited over. I believe that is why they look so awesome on screen and vibrant.

Yeah, you can see that while they were filming the props were lit up, otherwise trying to make the blue light reflect off fin and rey's face would be near impossible to do in an editing process

Also there's a couple of videos of it on the internet
