This is the build log for Forum Member, Jin Ke. He approached us a while ago about making a saber for him.
Here is his original render and the MHS peices we'll be using (minus the Bladeholder).
First, we worked on the shroud. He wanted something Qui-Gon-esque, so we found a pattern for that shroud and modified it.
We then glued the pattern to a new sinktube tail peice and did a check to make sure the shroud would line up right.
It does....so we let the sparks fly and start cutting.
Looks pretty good so we do a quick test fit.
Yep...that's fine. So we'll clean that peice up and move on to the powdercoating.
We tape up the MHS parts...he didn't want the whole hilt PC'd...just the recessed areas of the hilt. So here's what that prep work looks like:
Not attractive, I know...but it gets the job done.
The shroud, choke, bladeholder and Hilt all get sent to the oven to cook....at 400 degrees for about 30 minutes. Everything came out great.
Jin Ke....here's where I deviated from the render. The Bladeholder has two recessed rings, just under the emitter. I left those two rings silver to match the hilt. If you don't like it, then it's not a problem to PC it again...just let me know.
Next, we take a trip to the drill press for a screw to hold the shroud and the covertec knob.
Holes are tapped and we're done.
Pretty close to the render?
I think so. Here's some shots of the completed hilt.
Ok. So this saber moves over to Chewbacca's workstation for the guts! Look for an update from him tomorrow.
Jin-Ke, I hope you like it. Please let me know if there is anything you want to add and what you think about that emitter. Thanks!
Master Jedye.
