Title: Andrew's personal saber
Post by: amwolf on October 13, 2012, 03:27:22 PM
Hello, everyone. My name is Andrew, and while I’ve posted a few sabers over at TCSS’ forum this is my first post here. I’ve been hiding and watching from the background here for a while. I’d like to introduce myself by presenting my newest saber, and this one I’m keeping for myself.

It’s my first crystal chamber, and it’s a reverse sound configuration. Originally the chamber was to have been in the back of the saber, but during a trip to the hardware store I found some brass washers that fit the MHS interior perfectly, so it got a quick hardware store redesign and got further massaged during the build. I was going for a radiator-style chamber, with copper tubing snaking through the brass fins and around some hollow copper pipe that were the wire chases. I repeated that material scheme through copper tubing wrapped in grooves in the extension, and some copper mesh in the pommel.

I asked Tim over at TCSS to add the grove to the pommel, and he did the copper orange powder coating on the ribbed grooved extension as well. The SD card  actually sits a smidge proud of the end of the extension, so it’s really easy to access by removing the pommel. The control box I designed and had 3D printed in “stainless steel” so it’d be durable. And darn hard to drill through… The card insert is friction fit and came from a RAM card pulled from on old computer. I cut the shrouds, and painted and baked  them and the control box. Finally, the choke has a black pigskin suede wrap where the recharge port is mounted.

Alright, enough of me babbling on. Here’s the fun stuff…

Specs:

Petit Crouton 2.0 w/ Madcow’s “Hero” font
7.4V 14500 battery pack, recharge port in the choke
LED Engin configured for “Sky Blue” blade w/ RW FOC
Semi-exposed Quartz crystal chamber
Custom switch box
Reverse sound configuration
Accent leds – turquoise power indicator in the crystal chamber, white and turquoise keister blinkies

That is a pretty sick saber, definetly digging the shroud work on it as well as the blue board cut to fit the top groove.

excellent , absolutely gorgeous and definitely my kind of saber... nothing im going to fault on this one because its an awesome design NUFF SAID.... love the control box and its position on this saber... stainless steel is a difficult metal to work with but for drilling i would suggest a drill press a cobalt bit and depending on bit size go with approximately 650 rpm , cutting gel and a little cooling fluid, it certainly is tricky but worth the extra effort.

Beautiful - a well designed and executed lightsaber!

Something about it reminds me of Star Trek...

I hadn't thought about the star trek influence... but with a couple of nacelles and a frisbee, maybe a little super glue... next thing you know the Galileo is launching out the pommel. Huh, never saw that coming.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone!

Wow, this saber is really well put together. I love the crystal chamber under that grill shroud, and it can be removed, as if you are going to work on it. I also like the long angled control box, it works really well with the shroud.

Amazing!

Thanks, everyone! Sorry, Clark, but it's not for sale...
Naigon, if the crystal ever works it's way loose taking that shroud off is really the only way to get it back into place. It's friction fit into the bronze pipe housing, which was ground out to fit the shape of the crystal end. The set screw is backup on the only flat face, but as it's my first I had to keep actual maintenance in mind...

what? not for sale?  "Everyone has a price, for the Million Dollar Man"  <money money money money money>

for those who dont know, this is a wrestling reference from the Million Dollar Man, Ted Dibiase:

Thanks for the compliments. And, I suppose, if there was large enough bag of coin loaded up on the trebuchet and flung my way, yeah, I'd probably part with it. So Mr. Kent, I do have a price after all. Shall we say that at this time I'm not entertaining any offers... until my wife "suggests" I change my mind.
