Title: SpaceWindu's Star Wars Art Gallery
Post by: EXAR KUN on January 05, 2011, 09:47:29 PM
Thanks for checking out my Star Wars 'Lightsaber-Centric' Art Gallery.

Scroll down to newer posts for my newest work.

Darth Bane VS Farfalla

Have you read the 'Rule of Two' by Drew Karpyshyn?

It's seriously one of the best Star Wars novels ever. It's the second installment in the Darth Bane trilogy which takes place 1,000 years before ANH.

My artwork shows one part of the epic battle between the Sith and the Jedi. On one side is the Ithorian Jedi Master Worror, the female Jedi Weapons Master Raskta, Jedi Master Farfalla, Jedi Knight Sarro, and Jedi Apprentice Johun, and on the opposing side are the Sith Master Darth Bane and his Apprentice Zannah.
In the background, the gold blade of Farfalla team up with Raskta's duel blue blades and Johun's green backed up by Master Worror's battle meditation (the Ithorian was tossed by Bane and now sits away from the fight for now) clash with Bane and his monster red saber and his Orbalysk body armor. The armor deflects saber attacks and that is why Banes' clothes are tattered: because the Jedi attacks burn his robes, but not his skin.

In the foreground, Bane's apprentice Zannah unleashes her Sith sorcery on the Jedi Knight Sarro (Zannah's specialty).

If you missed the books, check them out. I even got some people who don't normally read Star Wars books to read the first one.... and they bought all three! They thought the story was grand.

Couldn't agree more with you on the books. Cool pics. & I h8 to sound critcal here, but aren't the Orbalisk's suppose to resemble Triobites?

Very nice illustration. The orbalisks should be like triobites. I finished all three books this past weekend after seeing some of these recent posts. ;D

Just a reminder; Farfalla actually's like a Centaur, with four legs.

That said, I like your version better - it's how I always pictured him when I read the books.

Not four legs, but two with fur. More of a Satyr...

He is of this species.

It's been about six months since I read the third Bane book, but isn't his armor gone at that point?

Still regardless, that is an awesome picture. 8)

That's in the second book.

Oh, ok.  I understood he was like a centaur, but you're right.

That's right, because he.. yeah, never mind, as I said, I haven't read any of the bane books lately. I only have the first one. ;D

But that is still an awesome picture.

How did you render this?

Just looked up Triobites. Those are pretty cool looking! That seems correct to me, although I don't ever remember hearing about the resemblance. The way I saw it when I read the book is the way I was rendering them ::)

Sweet! Yeah, I guess I got it a little bit wrong. Maybe I read into the 'orb' part of orbalisks a little too much ;D

How did I miss this! I thought I was a good reader and paid attention, now I want to go back and check where Drew illustrates this point. I thought Farfalla was human!

That's right, because he.. yeah, never mind, as I said, I haven't read any of the bane books lately. I only have the first one. ;D

Thank you, and thanks for your feedback everyone.
I rendered this in Photoshop CS 2 using my Wacom tablet as a sort of paint or ink brush.
When I did this I had the book open to the part where this battle takes place and I tried to incorporate the details that the author focused on.
Thanks again,

The Last Jedi

'The Last Jedi' is a book by Michael Reaves and Maya Kaathryn Bonhoff.

I thought this was an excellent book, with a different pacing to the story than I am accustomed. The last time I had this much fun with a Star Wars book was 'Darth Plagueis' last year.

'The Last Jedi' takes place after Order 66 in the Star Wars Expanded Universe.

Jax Pavan is the Last Jedi who (like Obi Wan and Yoda), live through the Jedi Extermination plan.
Jax is a young male human Jedi. He appears in some other stories but none that I have read.
This is my first experience with him.

*****SPOILER ALERT******

Do not look at the next post if you do not wish to see minor spoilers to the story in 'The Last Jedi' book.

The Last Jedi

Jax Pavan is the Last Jedi.

He travels to Dathomir to meet witches known as the Singing Mountain Clan.
These witches have heard of the Jedi Purge, and doubt whether Jax Pavan is indeed a Jedi as he claims to be.
Scouts for the Singing Mountain Clan meet Jax near where he landed his gray/chrome Delta 7 and ask to see his Jedi weapon.

The illustration below is of this scene.

Thank you. I think you are really missing something in the Bane Trilogy.
Those are thrilling stories told from the Dark Side perspective.

Very nice illustration. Great layout of the characters in this design, and nice color scheme as well. I love how the image tells a story without words.  :D
