Title: US Dominix I just finished for A friend
Post by: Pyromatic177 on January 12, 2014, 08:08:41 PM
So I did a NB install a while back in a US for my friend. Well a couple weeks back the LED quit so I took it back and re-wired it all. And when I was doing that my friend asked me if I could be polished silver.

It looked like this

Lol sooo...

I took the challenge on and 1st stripped down the anodizing with Oven Cleaner

And that worked well, the I put more oven cleaner on it and it somehow corroded the hilt, quite bad lol.
So I took a wire brush to it and, well, it did the trick but left the hilt pretty rough  :-\

And so started the sanding. I did in this order 60,150,220,400,600 and 2,000 grit sandpaper. So was about 5 hours or so of sanding!

Results:

Has a slight shine even without polish!

So as said earlier after about 5 hours of sanding I got to polish it
(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1212.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc460%2Fpyromatic177%2Fth_IMAG1269.jpg&hash=041b220d7a79bfc26cf222b40cbeee9df0306f51) (http://s1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc460/pyromatic177/?action=view&current=IMAG1269.jpg)

I was impressed with how it turned out. But since I'm never happy I wet sanded it with 2K and polished it again. Then did the install!

And here she be  8)

Nice job on the refinish!
To save yourself endless hours of sanding and polishing in the future, why don't you get a bench grinder? I have a $30 bench grinder from Harbor Freight with a wire wheel on one side and a spiral sewn buffing pad on the other and all I can say is thank Ben Franklin for 'lectricity!
