Pro Qui Lightsaber Review ~ Photo's & Video.
« on: September 14, 2011, 02:55:50 AM »
What are we talking about?

This is a very special lightsaber, that is shining as jewellery in my livingroom.

Back than, I was ordering just the regular Qui Gon Jinn saber at www.jqsabers.com.
Lateron Daren mailed me that he had something special going on and that he liked to share this excitement with me.

I was really interested to see how this would turn out.
Now,… I can tell you that I was stunned after seeing the photo’s.
Still, I worried.
Maybe I would still have the need for the regular Qui Gon saber afterall, and I did not have the money for a second.
He said, that If I owned the regular, and would see this Pro Qui in person, I would be weeping on my knees.
You know what?
He was absolute right about that.
So I said, to go ahead and make me one too.

You know the special care the SW engineers took on sabers like the Sideous, the Mace Windu or the Dooku?
This Pro Qui is in that league.

Daren is a real skilled sabersmid and you’ll know that, at the minute you hold a saber coming from his hands in your own.

Unpack it quick!

I still remember when the box arrived, why?
It was heavy.
The first thing I do when I receive a package, is walking with the box to my kitchen and take a good knife to kill off the box like a shark. ;D ;D ;D
I’m a man without patience, specially when I’m excited so,…
WOW, it was packed really good to protect the goodies.
The hilt was wrapped in the famous bubblefoil, but it felt real massive already.
I knew directly, that this was serious business.

Shine, SHINE, SHINE!!!

Man this baby shines so beautyfull. (and I don’t mean the LED’s cause that’s a differend story.)
And positively heavy.
Not too heavy that it would bother you, but the kind that gives you the feeling of holding a real beautyfull weapon, and not a play-toy for movie stuntscenes because you cannot see it up-close.
[In a lot of movies they make sabers for the close-ups, the real deal, the real craftsmanship.
And than there is the lighter, not detailed stuntsaber.
Well this is the first.]
Remember,… this is no saber for fast dualling, but,… it is however a saber that can endure a heavy duallingblade, and can easily be used for Hack-and-Slash, going out of your mind, really hard dualling.
It is made of durable strong metal, AND it also got the fantastic looks.
Like I said,… a League of his own, a fantastic class apart.

I really took the time to admire this saber.
The gold metal looks of the brass, in contrast to that deep shiny black, is so incredible stunning.
I don’t think the Photo’s and Video will do it right.

I have a few very beautyfull sabers here, like the Graflex Luke ESB, but when people look to my sabers, they always grab this one and are in awe of how it looks and feels.

Look at this:

Even the smaller extra add’s are special.
Take the Kill-key for example.
It’s a specially made Gold-Colored tiny Kill-key that really add’s to the looks of this saber, and is so attractive, like I never have seen before on any saber.
Again, so is the Emitter Plug.
You see, this saber is very detailed in every way.

Yes, you need an kill-key and an emitter plug, so what?
Well, making it so incredibly beautyfull, that it really add’s to the beauty of this hilt, is major Art.

What can it do?

What I find really attractive, is the two Shiny Red Stones on the backside.
I actually do mean the two Red-LED-Buttons, but they really look like Shiny Red Stones on this Gold and Black Jewellery hilt.
Pressing on the one below, turns the saber On, and likewise,… me too. ;D ;D ;D

Turning it On makes people pee in their pants haha.
(No not really, luckily.)
This saber is LOUD, man.
It has the 1 W speaker but serious, I don’t think I want this saber to hold that new 2W speaker, cause it is VERY loud and real.
Real is the thing I try to achieve.
(I do however want to swap the speakers of all my other sabers for that 2 W speaker)

When I hold a saber and turn it on, it normally gives you the feel of, “Oh yes, the sound comes from a speaker, and it is placed about there”,… well not with this one.
Turning On this Pro Qui gives you that, “It really generates energy. What I have in my hand is POWER.” emotion.
Also have something to do with the pumping and sucking air in your hand, because of the invisible sound openings in the grip.
You, so do feel the resonance of this saber.

In fact, the impact of this saber sometimes is that they will drop it when it turns on.
The first time this happened, I catched my hilt, and since than, I’m worning them to hold on no metter what, or ask them to sit first.
(I never tell them what will happen when they press on the button, cause than I take away some of the surprice.)

The second Red little Pearle is off course the Auxillary button, but you’ll knew that already, didn’t you? ;)

Surprice!

Now that this saber is On,… you also see that Bargraph lighting up, (Oh is that what the black plate is for?) and doing a lot of cool stuff too, and the beauty of it is,…
Between the two now flashing Red Pearl Stones, there is also a flat small button.
Pressing on that one, changes the sequence of the LED’s.
This Bargraph will never be boring.
It gives this hilt life, as KITT form Knight Rider. ;) (HUH???)

What the heck?

Can there be more?
Yes.
You cannot see it, even when you know, and if you expect it, you’ll never find it, not even when you search for it.
Daren made that impressively good hidden.
What, WHAT???

Besides the Red Stones, you can put your finger tip or nail in a ribble of the metal, and push,…
You need to use some strength for it, but than,…
“Open Sesame”
There appears a real Crystal Chamber.
Yes this saber contains everything.
This Crystal Chamber is very bright, and stunning.
How did he manage to get a Crystal Chamber in this, the way he dd?
People are so impressed when they see what this beauty has to offer.
I am still impressed, after owning this beauty for over a year now.

Say, that looks cool!

When I want to put the blade in, I encounter 2 specialties.
Taking out the Emitter Plug, makes you feel how heavy and durable this plug is.
Specially made for this saber, but JQ liked them so much that they use them from now on, if the design allows it.

I directly ordered two more of this plugs, just in case, I can use it for a future saber.

Second thing,… it brings me to the Blade itself.
This is no ordinary blade.
JQ-Sabers is calling them; Super Blades, or Media Blasted Blades.
Not lighted, this blades have that Silvery-Pearl look, and they feel really differend than what you’re used to.
In daylight this blade doesn’t reflect the light from outside as much as other blades do, so this does not interfere with the light coming from your saber.
This helps seeing the brightness and color from the saber much better.
I must say that at first I did not dare to dual with them, but some people resured me, this blades can take it.
I shall try.
Maybe it’s the special looks, that makes them so precious, but hey,… they are blades ye know,  :D :D :D don’t spoil them.

Silver-Pearls, is what I would have called them, but that is probably why I’m not in the saber business. ;D ;D ;D

Did I mentioned that they have pointy tips? ~ No!
Ohh well,… they have pointy tips, if you ask for it.
They shine a bit through, what makes the tip lighted as well, and also gives a cool side-effect.
You can see a tiny dot on the wall, where the line of the blade is pointed at.
It just gives that extra Laserlike effect when you swing your saber around.
 “I’ve got the POWERRR!!!”
I directly ordered two more of this blades.

Fire it up,…

It has a beautyfull bright green light, coming from the LedEngine-V.
It shimmers beautifully and Flashes on the Clashes like  you expect it to do.
I tuned the CF so, that when I lower the blade, the sound actually lowers too in pitch.
This gives you just that feel of being real.

The CF-4.3 that is in it, works like bother on toast.
(“Hey now I understand why Erv call’s it like that.”)

Everything works great, and it is very easy to reach for the Micro SD Card too.
Now that I’ve finished tuning this saber’s CF, just the way I like it, I will probably never open it again.

Where to place it?

Now this is not something that goes standard with the saber, but I assure you it is well worth buying, allong with the saber.
I’m talking about JQ’s lighted stands.
You can get them in Red, Blue, Green and Purple.
Also, you have the choice between Brass and Alluminium.
I bought two of them, a Brass stand of course for my Pro Qui, and an Alluminium version that also differs in looks, for my Graflex,… very Empire Strikes Back.
When you have part of your collection in the livingroom like me, (and you have a wife to think about) than this is a real classy way of displaying your sabers.

I think I’ve mentioned about everything there is to say, that involves this JQ Pro Qui hilt.

Conclusion:

I hate it.

 :)
 ;) ;)
 :D :D :D
 ;D ;D ;D ;D

Do I really need to write a Conclusion again?
This whole page is one big conclusion.
So I’ll let you deside what to think of it. :D :D :D

Confused?
For me, this saber is top notch, crème de la crème, absolute 10 of 10.

Spectacular saber!  :o

I may need one of those some day...

I could do without the yellow lettering highlighted in red though. Couldn't take it long enough to read the whole thing

EDIT: All photo's are clickable now.
It took me a while to do it though.

I took it away, and changed it from Red to Black, although on my computer it looked rather festive and homy. ;)?

So shiny! With that bargraph and small crystal chamber, that is one sharp looking saber. And you have the matching blade plug and kill key! very nice sir. And all of this as a variation on an iconic film saber. I am envious.
For my ally is the Force. And a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us… and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter! You must feel the Force around you. Here, between you, me, the tree, the rock… everywhere!

WHUUAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA.

Thank you guy's.
It's fun to read how well this saber is received by you guy's.
Now that I've been VERY bussy with this review, (read hours, which I had not expect) I must say that I'm in love with this saber all over again.

Also, I have to point out, after I enlarged the photo's, it seems that I did not clean this saber very well, . ;D ;D ;D
