Luke ROTJ V2 saber by General Veers
« on: March 19, 2010, 05:00:16 PM »
Im at it (again)!

This time with my ultimate unicorn!  A Luke V2.

This will be nothing like Caine's ubertastic V2.  It will be a stunt.

You know my first build?  Umm.... let's see here.....  this:  http://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/index.php?topic=21696.0

As you can see I already have most of the parts.  Yes the blade holder is style 8 but I'll position the 3/4" reducer and paint it so it gives it the look of a hero emitter ala LDM.

Post pics via the MHS builder soon!

This will be the first and most certainly not last Luke V2 I'll do.

Specs I know so far:
Blade Holder 8
Choke style 2
ribbed extension
Activation Box 1 (no lever)
3" double female
Lux V green

If you want more accuracy, BH 5 is what you want. Also, Tim's new extension/choke combo is very accurate. This will add more $$, but it all depends on what you want to achieve.  ;)

The V2 does have a lever, so a Graflex clamp is what you want. If you do a box, it will be more of a hero...or you can do a hybrid.  ;D

Pommel Style 3V2 also.

Good luck!

more $$
   :(  :P

EXACTLY!  Trying to keep this as inexpensive as possible!

My next V2 will hopefully be more accurate!   ;)

Here is the saber without the activation box (pics are clicky):

Now because I already have half the parts for this saber I can start tonight.  Here's where I started with the paint:

I just have to etch a little off at a time.

DANG!!!!!  That looks good I think!

This will be all for a while.  I ordered the parts today and they should be here withing 2-3 buisness days!  :D

I'll be doing a weathering technique that has worked good for me before on this saber.

I'll post pics in a little while!

Now for today's update!   :D

I don't want this to be a clean V2 so I'll start on the weathering of the front neck right behind the emitter.
  Yeah, that REALLY needs something.

So again.... I just etced off a little at a time.
  Now we're talkin'

That center band in the neck needs some weathering also
  Here it is plain.

All I did was paint it... and while it was still wet... rubbed it around to achieve that nice look of handled weathering.  Now the bottom section of the neck needs some weathering as well.

You can see what I did with that.  And there is the final weathered neck section of my Luke ROTJ V2.

Now on to the grip section.
Yep... that'll need something.  I'll probably do that similar to the center band of the neck section.

Here is the upper body of the saber all weathered and ready to go.

The weathering is very good!

If I were you I would sand it just a tad more...so it doesn't have too much of a "wrinkled" look....but overall your technique is right on.

It's a little scary you said that caine... because I did just that.

Great minds think a like I suppose   :D

So..... for todays update!

So... Here's the blade holder from one angle.... (remember.... clicky pics   :D )
You can see I also added new weathering towards the actual emitter of the saber..... more accurate.

And from another angle....
YOu can also see what I did to the rest of the neck.

Here's more detail on the center band...
This weathering job looks the most realistic to me.

And her's the choke section of the neck..

I also added even more weathering to the grip section...
Hopefully you can see that here.

This time I actually sanded instead of sratching off.  I like the results MUCH better than the last time.    :D

Looks great... :)

The beauty of weathering is... you WANT it to "not look perfect".  :)

Thanks Nova!

Lemme start a poll.  I been doing some fumbling around and was wondering if I should mod this into a V3.

Caine's looks pretty cool!

What do you guys think?

Little change of plans.

This'll probably.... I emphasize **PROBABLY**  have a US 2.5 soundboard now.  My first time using such board.

And after awhile I'll make it more accurate and give it the ribbed choke combo.... but that won't be for awhile.

I'M EXCITED!!!!!  ;D

And... meh.... we'll do a Seoul P4 and overdrive that sucker!   ;D

Lemme ask yous guys something....  :D

If I painted the reducer a metallic silver so it looked like this:
Only with metallic paint.... do you think that would make a good extended emitter?
