Gemini Concepts Presents: Kyuubi's Retribution
« on: December 23, 2009, 04:21:53 PM »
Our last saber of the 2009 Season! Been a great year.

Here it is, the Retribution.

Kyuubi contacted us a while back with a good idea for a saber, he sent us the design and off we went to build this.

Features a P4 green LED powered by an HFX Darth Maul board.
6v battery pack, (4 AAA)
Flack black powder coat
Illuminated A/V switch in a TCSS Bezel
Several visits to the Gemini Concepts Polishing Center  ;D ;D

I metered this soundboard a few weeks ago, because it seemed to be driving the LED brighter than other MR/HFX boards we had in stock. I dont recall the exact numbers, but was somewhat surprised. Kyuubi's original intention was to use a Jedi board, but we discussed this particular board and what how much brighter it made the LED, in the end, we opted for this board.

It really does that P4 LED justice, really bright in person.

Here are the Pictures:

It's very bright. The original Safety plug I had intended for this one didn't work, since it allows a good deal of light though it.  I had to use one of our Obi-Style Plugs.

The mirror finish was accomplished by sanding the MHS peices down, starting at 400 grit and gradually working up to 3000 grit wet paper.  Took about an hour to do it, but it was worth it, I think.

This was Kyuubi's original design:

I hope we did it justice.   ;)

And here is a "naked" shot of the MHS pieces before they were PC'd.  And a comparison shot to unpolished MHS pieces.

Kyuubi, Thank you for letting us do this and I hope you enjoy it.  As always, we'll keep it around for a few days to make sure there are no issues... and then it's off to your house.

Thanks again!
Casey (MJ)

Was that hand sanding or with the drill like in your tutorial?

I modified a drillbit combined with an MHS short choke that allows you to screw on any MHS piece, male or female.  So it's the same principle as outlined in the tutorial for sanding down a sinktube.  Good eye, Forcestruck.   ;)

Wow! Absolutely gorgeous.  This makes me want to attempt polishing my hilts more.  I tend to do it the cheap and easy route.  Mother's Mag polish.   ;D

Oh... there's Mother's Mag on this too.  In fact, the "wet" in the 3000 grit wet sandpaper is water and Mother's Mag.   ;)

Thanks, guys!

Well done 'gents! ;D The mirror polish is my favorite part, as it is in all of the sabers you have done it to so far ;D. Fascinating on the brightness of the P4 increased by the Maul board...

Kyuubi, congratulations on a fantastic saber. MJ, how's that "testing" coming along? :D
