Title: The MKVI, a journey to the Ultimate ROTJ Hero saber.
Post by: GENERAL GRIEVOUS on May 03, 2011, 12:46:40 PM
The MKVI Project

So bye now everyone has seen my newest product, the MKVI.  When we set out to create this saber, we wanted to accomplish two things.  First, we wanted it to be as accurate to the "Hero" prop as was reasonably possible and secondly, we wanted it to be "electronics ready".

Here is a picture of the "Hero Prop" from which we took the dimensions for the MKVI:

(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi291.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fll317%2Fdrdicarlo%2FLuke%2520ROTJ%2520original%2520prop%2520pix%2FHeroakaV1.jpg&hash=38587ca884e76a8dd4f70cf395074bda0ede95a3)

To be 100% prop accurate (and as is always the debate) we would have had "asymmetrical" ribs.  In the end, we decided not to replicate the original prop builder's sloppiness and went with a symmetrical ribbed section.  We also decided to make a small concession on the black "cube" switches and went with plungers rather than a "rocker" box.  That's about all that is different from the Hero saber.

From the picture above, we decided on the following renders:

At this point, we also decided to go with real copper and aluminum rather than "simulating" the copper parts.  It added a lot of cost ot the saber, but I felt that it was completely worth it for my Unicorn!

Production has begun!

Off to the laborious task of powder coating...yuk.  A special color was developed for the MKVI.  It is a non-trans semigloss black.

So what I see there... is that all that will ever be made?  Or just this run?  Or are there more out of frame.

Thanks man.  I do it because I love it and many people are very kind in their support.  I really appreciate the positive vibe that I get from so many.  It definitely keeps me motivated when things start to feel like they are mired in mud, lol.

People could see a CF or two show up at some point.  However, These will ONLY be available for order with PC-U and either EpVI or Hero.  The reasons for that?  Well, it is an Ep. VI saber after all ;)  Also, I don't happen to have a huge pile of CF sitting in a drawer somewhere.  Thirdly, $2000+ sabers don't tend to jump off the shelf, lol.

Words cannot describe the sheer magnificence of this lightsaber...I'm replaying the first moment I saw this saber at age 8 on my parent's Mitsubishi Television.  It will be mine, oh yes it will be mine...someday  ^\^ ;

Hello General. After weilding my Hero Luke for awhile I noticed the copper on the neck area and the lower copper part of the control box (where my greasy hands touch) gets like black smudges. I gues it has something to do with my way of holding it on the copper parts? Is there a way to clean this up? Thanks you sir!!

It is real copper so it tarnishes really quickly.  Just use mothers mag polish and polish it back up.
