Another Modified MachinedFX Starkiller, for Kilo23
« on: March 03, 2009, 06:25:46 PM »
This is another MachinedFX Starkiller lightsaber that Kilo23 sent to us to add a Sound Board.  We used
a HFX Vader Board for this one.  We added a LUX III Red LED and red accent LED. The saber arrived with a LUX I LED
for the Blade and flashlight bulb for the accent. We made a new LED/Lens holder/Heat sink using copper fittings
and some copper washers.

The brass rod in the middle of the chamber is a 1/16" rod from ACE Hardware, secured to the heat sink and is hiding
the LED wires which are epoxied on the backside.

The Speaker didn't quite seem to resonate in the hilt very well, so we drilled a few sound holes in the pommel cap.

The blade retention screw is in the middle of the bunny ears just below the rivet that holds the ears in place and the quick
disconnect set up is the same we used for Senti Xamas' Starkiller. One QD for the battery pack and one for the LED
set-up.

A few things I noticed. The blade socket on this one is bigger than the first one we modified and the mid hilt section
is slightly thinner. Each one of these is apparently pretty unique. The weathering on this one was more "severe" and the colors of the hilt were a little different too. I think that adds a little individualism to these sabers.

Wow DC, this one looks great!  Did this one differ from Senti Xamas's in any way other than the cap holes?  I noticed you didn't add the small compressed piece on the end of the copper rod, any reason for that, or was is requested as such?  I love the look and sound of it, once I get mine I look foward to having you work on it and make it more awesome.

IIRC, it was requested that the compression fitting not be placed on it. I don't think there was anyu other differences,

If you send one in, I recommend using a real quartz crystal. The one I did for Ri-on really came out nice, and Jango just made one too using an really cool quartz crystal, (he's taking orders as well) and I think the quartz version look alot better.

Senti is sending his back to me for a Quartz Upgrade, btw, so be sure to check out the upgrade coming to his soon.

Using a real quartz crystal, rather than the plastic ones looks a lot better. ;)

I love that design, it almost looks apocalyptic in its cobbled together 'burnt' style.

Peace be upon all,

Another fine job Bro. Congratulations to both Darth Call and to Kilo23!
I highly recommend reading The Force Unleashed novel and playing the game, they really get you hyped on this saber!  ;)
