Master Jedye Presents...Fire and Ice
« on: November 16, 2008, 03:42:09 PM »
Here’s my second saber.  It’s called Fire and Ice.  The center hilt is from TCSS with silver Lux III.  The sound board is from a Hasbro Darth Vader lightsaber and connected with the help of Darth Call.  A red LED, momentary button and speaker were all purchased from Radio Shack.  The “flamed” hilt and emitter cover was a chrome sink tube that was sanded, polished and cut.  (pains-takingly cut).  The Silver LED is filtered with a “Cold Steel” tint from Lee Filters.

The flames were cut out with a drimmel and then sanded and shaped with VERY small metal files.  Pretty time consuming.  But by far the hardest part was attaching that red LED to the hilt.  Running 4 wires through a small hole with shrink wrap is awfully tight.  I bet there’s an easier way to do this and I’m open to suggestions.

Also, the emitter cover was pretty difficult.  Same design as the hilt but on a smaller scale.  I like these individualized emitters.  It adds character and sets the lightsaber apart from others. I learned a lot from making the emitter on my first saber, the Halo ( http://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/index.php?topic=14453.0 ).

So here it is…please tell me what you think.

Little red led that took forever to install!

Amazing dremel work. I don't think anything else needs to be said. It's a work of art.

Great saber.

I wasn't a fan of that hourglass choke, even while MJ was putting it together, but once it was done and I was able to feel it up, I realized that it makes a nice groove for controlling spins. It sits comfortably in between the thumb and point finger.

Good job again MJ, great looking saber!

hmmmm...the more I look at this saber (in person), the less I like the emitter.  Too early to recycle?  Probably not.  I'll keep the flamed hilt but maybe just use a plain 45 degree cut shroud over the TSCC emitter.  Brass, of course.  Maybe some port holes.
Master sabersmiths, what's the next evolutionary step for this saber?  or should I just let this species go extint  ;) .
Also, the white LED isn't very bright.  Lux III from TCSS.  All the wiring is fine and batt's are new.  I don't think that additional red LED indicator is pulling that much but I've been wrong before.  Any suggestions?

why change the emitter????

I think it looks great with the design personal!

If you must change it, lol...try emitter 12 or 10....12 would go with the cuts your made to the outer metal overlay on the emitter part since from what i can see, it only goes to a point on one end, could be wrong but thats all i can see lol.

10 would go too since its an open ended open spaced style like the one you have on their now but with the open ended style, it gives it that pointy look to go with the overlay around the emitter.

GL on your choice! again, the saber is super sweet as is!

Thanks, Kris...I like the # 12.  Maybe putting the flame tip and shroud tip on opposing sides.  ;)
