SOLVED - NBv4 how to check if amp fried?
« on: March 19, 2018, 12:29:33 PM »
I was wiring up a 5v setup regulator and had it set for 5.02 volt output, everything was working fine but after the second test, I can no longer get sound out.

I saw on another board that the amp might be fried.

Is there a way to test this on the board? output resistance, etc?

check if the amp heats up, it usually does when fried. I don't know which regulator you used but keep in mind some SMPS type regulators generate spikes during power on (this is why we use LDO's)

erv,

I'll use my laser thermometer to check. Am I correct in assuming the amp is the chip next to the speaker terminals?

Not seeing a high temp with the gun. The main ecu shows 31 celsius and the amp is showing 27.

I thought it might be the speaker, but I removed from the main body and swapped in the test speaker and that does not work either.

I'll post a few pics if it can help.

With power disconnected,

I checked resistance on the NBv4 speaker terminals together and got 36 ohms.

I checked each NBv4 speaker terminal to negative on the board and got 19.15 ohms.

It does not seem to be shorted.

your pictures can't be seen.
there should be no resistance between the speaker pads and the negative / ground, so the amp is probably dead

Thanks erv.

What are my options. I got it this January from TCSS and barely got it all configured nicely. Is it repairable?

It was the amp. Back up and running now.
