TFA was OK. It's criticised as a reboot of ANH but it's tolerable as it was kicking off a new trilogy and had to establish the characters. And there were lots of things that had potential. Who is Rey, why did Luke's saber call to her, what was the relevance of her force vision, how did Maz get the saber, who is Snoke, why is he so powerful, how can he complete KR's training but not be a sith, who are the Knights of Ren, how do they fit in with the rule of two, how was KR talking to the spirit of Vader when the sith cannot become one with the force, is Luke going to kick some xxx in 8 and will we see the 3 force spirits from ROTJ, what happened to the rest of Luke's students etc.
As true fans know SW is really about the battle between the Jedi and the Sith. If you think about the OT, the rebellion is always there but it's something that's going on in the background where as in the sequel movies it's all about the resistance and the Jedi vs Sith is pushed to the background.
The complete lack of respect RJ paid to the rules established in all the other movies is staggering. Obi gave his life to protect Luke as it was believed that Luke was their last hope but now we learn that if Luke was killed then the Force would have just created another wonder baby.
People say the Finn and Rose arc was irrelevant and I agree it was but just about every part of the movie was irrelevant or should have been done differently. Take any scene like say... Yoda's spirit. Yoda acts like a giggling 5 year old which he was only doing in ESB as he was trying to sum up Luke and not give away the fact he was a Jedi Master. He then said how much he missed young Skywalker giving the impression he hadn't spoken to him since ROTJ which amazed me as spirit Obi was popping up all over the place in the OT. Yoda burns down the Jedi tree which was empty, criticises the Jedi texts saying their not worth reading and then tells Luke to train Rey who's already leaving or left and then Luke forces himself to death afterwards anyway so as much as I loved seeing Yoda in the movie I was left thinking, like most of the movie, what was the point.
KK and her cronies all pat themselves on the back because they break records but that's only because we don't know it's crap until after we have paid to see it, but it's showing in their toy sales. They are blaming the economy and SW fatigue but it's because TLJ wasn't very good. Maybe someone should start an online protest with a commitment not to see the Ep9 for at least 2 weeks after it opens, that's the only way they will take notice $$$.
All Disney has to do is focus on kick xxx bad guys, the sith vs Jedi and awesome lightsaber duels, that's it... Simple. I'm pretty sure it's irreversible at this point though. The damage is done.
