I managed to score a Mk VI for only $325 on eBay with Crystal Shard sound and GGW LED. It's a solid build and it's loud. There is only one probkem, the run time is very short like 30 mins short. I had to recharge it during my last convention.
I'm thinking the battery might need replaced. Any suggestions?
-
It depends on what kind of battery was in there (and more importantly the mAh rating on it. It also depends on how old the saber itself is. I’ll mention it to the General if I see him floating around this part of the Galaxy
-
Thank you.
Its a 7.4v with 2000 MaH and I use a tcss charger. It's marked 18 when I unscrew the emitter. I'm not sure how old it is.
-
Here she is. I'm using a photon blade in the solo pic and a clear one with thr Vader. Both use a tri Cree and Vader over powers the v2. I think it might be the 7/8 blade and the think neck being the culprits. Others wise it's an amazing piece of work.

That doesn’t sound correct, as the CS’s only work with 3.7V batteries, as I recall.
-
The battery is labeled 7.4 and my 3.7 charger does nothing as far as charging the saber. The light does not respond.

For your 7.4 volt battery, you should get a 7.4 li-ion charger. Could also be that the battery is bad, and should be exchanged. You are Vader45 over at the rpf, right?

I bought one from tcss and yes I am.

I have another question before I go taking the saber apart again. I noticed the batteries at tcss have a clip. Are LDMs batteries use the same clip or are the wires directly soldered on? If it's the clip style I can swap out the battery easy, if not I would need someone to do it.
Thanks.
-
Well then this is what I get for taking the thing apart and looking at it. A wire came lose from the board and when I try to reconnect it all it does is make a high pitched whine. Its the wire the goes to the board and the recharge port.
I noticed the board is labeled Petite Crouton Plector Labs 2012.
Im going to contact LMD to see if he will repair it. This is why I do not work on wires or electronics!
-
Sent an email to LDM, Im hoping he can do it and its not expensive!
-
UGH! I just wasted 20 bucks to have someone re soldier the xxx wires back on, the saber does absolutely nothing, battery charges but then nothin when I unplug it, no boot sound or anything. I am so sick to my stomache right now, I just want this saber to work again. I did not buy a static piece. I really hope LDM gets back to me.
-
Hey man, sorry for the late notice. Your email must have gone to SPAM. PLease re-send to: ldm.tcss_services@yahoo.com and I will help you out. Some early MKVI's had Petit Crouton soundboards in them and they would have had 7.4v packs. Run time would depend on settings, but it could be that the saber is old enough that the battery pack is going.
-
I read somewhere that its important to solder with out the sd card in. I think that is my problem. I'm going to buy a new card from tcss to see if thats my current issue.

Thank you for responding. Email sent.

I ordered the petit crouton sd card from tcss hoping that solves my problem. The battery charges as if the sd is not inserted. It might have gone bad when the wire was resoldered.

That is correct.

That is correct.
That puts my mind to ease big time. So my new sd card should power the saber when it arrives.
-
I got my new SD card in, it will not play since the config files are for the 4.0. I need the 2.0 files in which LDM said he would email when he gets back to me.
Yes the last card is fried as it would not respond when I plug it into a computer. The new one works!
-
I found the 2.0 Config in an old fx-sabers thread and still nothing. I even downloaded the v1.6 fonts off TCSS and bought another font from saberfont. I even formatted the SD and NOTHING. Im real angry right now.
Does the override doc have to be the right version 2? Am i missing something or is my problem not the SD card but the board itself?
-
I am reading the manual to the PC V2.0 and it says it only has one sound bank. The SD card came with 3 banks....is that afffecting as to why the saber is not working? the PC2.0 can not have more then one sound font?
-
Correct, that version only supported one sound font as I recall.
-
Correct, that version only supported one sound font as I recall.
So What needs to be on the card to ensure that it will work?
Right now It has the 4.0 text files with 3 sound banks, and I put the Hero font from saberfont.com direct on the sd with no folder for the WAV files. I thought putting the files directly on the SD with out sub folders would do it, maybe all of the other stuff is preventing it from working.
-
I literally give up and will be sending the saber to LDM. I give the heck up on life.
-
I removed everything and left one font on the card. I reformatted and then added the font back to the card. This is my last shot after this im done and just sending it off, it could be something wrong with the board and not the sd card.
-
The main problem likely is your impatience and shooting in th e dark. I would be willing to look through my library and see what I have in older PC setups, but I am not home and won’t be until later tonight. I strongly suggest you just put things down and relax for a little while.

I am very impatient!
And thank you by the way.
-
When you say you've left one font on the board, is that font on the root directory of the SD card or is it still in a folder named "bank1"? Those board read the sound files of the font directly on the root directory, not from a folder.
-
Relax, LDM will take care of you. I have had numerous projects with him, and LDM is one of the best! Your saber will come back to you just fine.
-
If you go here, you can download the right file set for the board you have.
Article Info - Plecter Labs - Props Electronics (http://www.plecterlabs.com/shop/article_info.php?articles_id=1) You want the PC ver 2.x
-
Still nothing. No sound or anything. Will send it to LDM.
-
I finally ended up sending my saber to LDM. I hope he can repair.
-
You will get it back working 100%, believe me!
-
I have it in hand and it will return to him in full working order one way or another, lol.
-
I am still waiting on my saber
-
Update on my saber.
The board is fried so LDM is installing a new Crystal Shard and LED. I'm so excited!
-
So I finally received the saber back from LDM. He blew this project out of the water and his price was VERY fare with all that is included in this new package.
It was installed with a Crystal Shard 4.0 soundboard, GGW LED, 3D printed Chassis and a 3.5V Li-ion battery. The brightness and run time are far superior then before. He included 6 different sound fonts. It was a few days before I noticed the other 5 as I thought the first one was the only one!
