« on: August 12, 2018, 06:26:33 PM »
Hi all.
Just finished this saber I've called Fornax, latin for forge or furnace.
It's got a custom machined emitter and pommel, machined by my son, thanks Damian!

Features:
- custom machined emitter to accept 3/16 brass rods, and brass blade retention screw
- brass switch hats
- hand cut and shaped brass grips, all brass parts chemically aged
- gunmetal and brass paint, all clearcoated
- saltwater etching in a circuit pattern showing through the grips, with hand painted details
- custom machined pommel, with brass vent
- Tri-cree R,G,rB
- Prizm 5.1
- KR Sabers 28mm bass speaker
- Goth3designs chassis
- TCSS 18650
- recharge port with kill key

And a video here! https://youtu.be/TqdFdwCER_Q

Thanks for looking!

Jaw dropping. No I a, not Joking. My jaw was open for a few seconds when I saw this. Your son did an excellent job on the machining.  Congrats on another  one of your master pieces!

That looks fantastic! What did you use for the brass overlays? I've been wanting to do an MHS-based build with brass bits but I'm not sure where I can get brass tubes that will sleeve over the MHS parts without too much fuss (other than stripping the chrome off a sink tube, of course).

Thanks for sharing this. I absolutely love the grips, and the special screws you chose to attach them. Very classy!

The brass grips look like armor plating and from certain angles even seem to be like scales... laying on top of one another. But then in the video I see they are flat on the hilt so it's a cool illusion almost that they seem scaled at certain angles. Maybe it's the cool shape of them that does that to my eye. Really love it.

I can imagine the weight as you describe is heavy, but probably nicely placed in the grip rather than (let's say) having a heavy emitter or something. The weight being the grips here probably feels very good and sturdy.

Color choices with this are great, too. And it's funny we use the same tools to build sabers (including the cuss words haha)

Your son did a great job with the pommel, too. Like that shape alot.

I posted already on the TCSS forum, but I will add I’m very impressed with the etching/ paint job. I think that took some patience and work to get that looking so good.  I’m not even sure exactly how you painted it so crisp. I like it!

Got some brass tube at online metals. It's a bit big so I actually painted the inside of each ring pretty heavily (with clear so you don't see the edge), then slid those over the hilt which is also painted. That snugged it up enough to then add the screws.

Thank you Space. I mean Exar Kun sir =)
Yeah originally the etching was going to be scaly like an alligator belly. But it just evolved as these things do =)

It's always the same with you, when are you going to change it up? Getting tired of all of the beautiful and unique things. Make something plain and boring for once!
