My Darth-Maul FX
« on: August 14, 2005, 04:03:21 PM »
Been planning a home-made Maul FX for some time now.  Nowhere near ready yet, but wanted to try it for size.  Felt good spinning it about in the garden...not enough room indoors!

 The image probably won't work, but the link is;

If that doesn't work, just copy and paste it into the address bar.

Thanks for the comments and praise, but you'd all wipe away your drool pretty quick if you saw the thing up close and in the light.  As I said, the project's far from finished.  All I've done is strip down a couple of Vader ESBs and slotted them into a piece of aluminium tubing, then slid a rubber stopper thingy onto each end, mainly just to hold the sabers in place a bit.

The tubing's slightly bigger in diameter than the Vader ESB tubing, so it needs padding out a tiny bit.  Then I need to drill some holes and fashion some bits to hold the internals in place.  Then I'll add some proper switches.  Then I want to cut the hilt in half, so make it so I can break it down easily into two separate sabers, but not sure how to go about that.  Then I'll "pretty it up" with bits and bobs.

In the photo I had to hold tight onto each pair of bare wires for the switches...holding them against the hilt fires up the blade.  (It's actually quite neat, just grabbing the hilt and having the saber ignite!)  I did tape the wires down a bit later on, so that the blades were permanently on, and took it outside to spin it about.  That felt good, and I'll take a video some time.  There'll hardly be any sound though...the sound units are back to back and completely sealed within the tubing.  Could probably cut a few holes, but I want to cut it in half anyway, so I'll not worry about that yet.

Next project...100% home made saber with "extending" electroluminescent green blade!!
