Crystal Reveal Obi TPM Gallery
« on: February 01, 2013, 12:30:56 PM »
Well, if you haven't seen the WIP thread or the video, this is the pair of "Negotiator style" obi tpm sabers that I completed recently.  I am finally getting into the pics that I took.  There are a few that I would like to redo and will do so pretty soon, but I figured I'd get a head start on the 25 other keepers.  Anyway, I'll sum up the story a little shorter but more in depth than on my WIP thread.

So around the midway point of Wat Tambor's obi tpm run, juan and I were both thinking about trying to jump on or find an alternative.  Now, if I could make the choice again, I'd jump on the run faster than you could blink.  However, we talked ourselves out of the run and into these sabers.  First we thought about larbels, then I inquired about these hilts.  I got a cost and an estimated completion date, and juan and I talked it over for quite a while.  We decided we were going to go forward with these hilts and I would design a crystal chamber to go inside of them.  From the start we were going with sky blue blades.  Once we had ordered the hilts, I got to work designing a chassis.  I asked around for months trying to find someone to make the chassis but no one had the capability or the desire to make them.  I wound up getting a lathe and finally a mill and the design came to life within the span of about 2 weeks.  It's 1000% better than the original sketches.  I'm extremely proud of my work here and haven't been able to put mine down since I completed it last week.  I hope you guys enjoy the pics and the video.   8)

Those came out very clean, well done  :)

Where did the empty hilts come from? (You said you missed Wat's run)

Those are Parks hilts in the "Negotiator" style he does for Master Yoda.  You can sometimes get these on request as they are different from his different OWK1 versions, but he doesn't always do it.  They come with a large slot opened on the backside, and AG opened up his more for a larger viewable area.   These have less grip depth than the OWK1's, for more room in the grips for the board and chamber, and generally the inner tube is hollow 1" from top to bottom for plenty of room for goodness!

Looks good.  Personally I would have taken the opportunity, with 2 identical sabers, to do 2 different chambers or make them look different from one another.  But, I likes how they look regardless  ;)

Gotcha, thanks KF  ;)

That's a serious amount of detail and individual parts to fit into a small diameter tube, very sharp, well done.

Wow what a beautiful pair! They certainly look like they're worth all the time, effort and all the other trials you've gone through to finish these sabers  :-)

Thanks guys.

It would be hard for me to offer these bladeplugs for a multitude of reasons.  Obis come in 1", 3/4", and 7/8" blade sockets.  Each one has a different blade retention method (the om ones wouldn't need a plug as they have one but the rest all have retention screws at different heights on the bh) and would require a different lip at the top.  Even between these two identical hilts, the wider diameter at the top had to be made at different thicknesses.  From all of those scenarios, the only way i could make some for sale would be as a commission, and i cannot take commissions on fx-sabers.

So the short answer is no.

*cough cough* if you've got materials onhand for a few different sizes *cough cough* premake some and sell what you've made to fund further ones.  *cough cough*  good feedback builder *COUGH COUGH*

Little easier to handle something like this with materials OOP versus a full blown saber or something like that.

*cough cough*
