That is true. I mean look at welding. It throws of a blue light yet its "core" looks white, it also can blind you. So with that in mind, bright is good, blinding is bad.

Before this gets to far.. higher voltage 10 and 20 watt LEDs have been looked and discussed before on TCSS ;)

The problems? To much power needed 12 volts and up. means twice as many batteries and half the run time... :P
To Hot! :o as they are meant for AC/DC current applications ;)

And that 7watt LED is most likely a 5 being advertised as a 7 :D

How they can support their claim of the higher wattage is simple ohms law voltage x current = watts
Take the the atlas led, it is rated at 8.2 volts amd 1050 ma so if you multiply the two you get 8.3 watts

Yes these have been discussed and Iam sure thats not a 7 watt luxeon or philips would have them advertised on there site.

Persionally I think as the tech advances in lux led driven sabers we will have a very powerfull led that can be ran on 4.8V

Wait we do. the rebel.

http://luxeonstar.com/sub_category.php?id=1394&link_str=1394

The blues/ greens and whites are doing better than the 5W with the same mA needed(700) and just look at the green and cyan. 130-145 lumens.

Now the cyan rebel and cyan k2 have the same lumens, same power needs but one has to be pushed to 1500mA the other only 700 mA.

Patience for the jedi and sith as well, we will have bright as xxx flashlights.

But a Luxeon V in Green and Cyan both produce 160 lumens vs 145 for the Green and 130 for the Cyan Rebel Luxeons.

It is however, a much better alternative to using a K2 or a Luxeon III, and it seems to equal a Blue luxeon V at 48 lumens.

2010...I certainly hope it's better than 2009 was! ::)
10/10/10~Well, so far with my Father's passing away, I'd say that this year was actually worse than 2009, even the fact that I now have a full time job (For now) isn't anywhere near enough to make up for that...so...maybe 2011 will be better? I'm not holding my breath... ::)

Not too farr OT but I have not been able to find a Lux V Cyan from any of the online shops. They either don't have them, out of stock, or are in the $50 price range (wonder why  ::)). I thought I bought a 5w but it was a cyan 1w!   :(  Anyone need it? Anyone know of a shop that has them (5w cyan)?

Yes but you have to think of it like this.

The lux 5 needs 7.2 volts of power

The lux3, k2 rebel only need under 5V of power.

Persionally I would take the 30 or so lumin loss for the option of using a sound board or whatnot.

The lux 5 will soon be outdated as a more effecient and all around better leds are released.
