Master Sword & Pedestal of Time

From Legend of Zelda... mostly Ocarina of Time, but it appears in lots of other games too, but in different forms.

It's mostly scratch built from aluminium, acrylic, delrin and wood... there's some other stuff in there too, but in small doses.  The sword has a Prizm V5 and 2x neopixel strips, and the pedestal has a Petit Crouton V1, 2x LEDEngine 5w whites and 9v DC plug.

The "How I made..." videos have more pictures of both the build process and some pretty pictures towards the end.

Nice work!!  I've had a Master Saber in progress since January, but a I had to wait 60 days for a part to come in and haven't gotten back to it yet.   I guess I should have been quicker.  ;)

As I said on YouTube, this is pretty slick. Very nice job.

I'm curious why you used a PC for the base? Seems like overkill since the base does not need to react to motion and seems to pretty much just play music.

I'm curious why you used a PC for the base? Seems like overkill since the base does not need to react to motion and seems to pretty much just play music.

The PC version 1 had analog sensors, no accelerometer.  Those can be removed and replaced with manual switches, so the ocarina is actually playing the "clashes".  There's an analog motion sensor at the very bottom of the fairy post, so when you smack the fairy it will trigger a "swing", which is fairy quote and another song.

The blaster (or lockup) can cancel either a swing or a clash, so the aux is the foot switch.  I needed a way to stop a song and return to the hum, since some of the tracks are up to 12 minutes long.

It's still a lightsaber font, I just replaced the sounds with music:
Boot - mystery unlocked (hitting the crystal switch)
poweron - sword in (oot intro)
power off - sword out (master sword song)
swings - fairy quote + song
clashes - ocarina or fairy quote + song
blaster (only 1) - menu select sound (hence, song stop button)
lockup - inside a house

There's almost an hour's worth of music.  I originally chose 16 tracks that I absolutely love, but the demo is already over 7 minutes, and the fairy sensor has proven to be finicky and less reliable.  So for demo purposes, I split the difference, 4 ocarina tunes, 4 fairy tunes triggered by ocarina - no fairy.

Edit: forgot the Hum, that's the temple of time theme. ;)

That's some fine hacking there. Good way to re-purpose old hardware.

It’s a skill that he’s had forever.

I find your arguments vague and unconvincing.

Quiet! *Slap* And there’s a fresh one if you mouth off again.

Awesome :azn: !

I showed this to a friend (big Zelda fan) and her reaction was something like
'Oh my gosh! I would literally be cutting grass all day with that!' :cheesy:
Life is but a series of missed opportunities.
