required resistor ws2813
« on: August 09, 2017, 02:34:49 AM »
ok
so I originally bought some cheap WS2812B  strips and I have the appropriate 470 ohm  resistors  for use on the data line
 (  Nano biscotti 4.0 )
I tried everything to get the strips to work from changing timings to not using the resistors to changing resistor values
nothing worked so I ordered from a different company
WS2813  strips
without even putting a resistor on the data line it fired right up

this leads me to the question
is  A resistor required for a WS2813 strip?  is it inherent in the strip itself  to protect the data line ?

i'm also getting pretty antsy about waiting for a crystal focus 9.0
should I just get a prism 5.1 ( for this particular saber I could use the same nano biscotti board but I really want that auxiliary button for Accu bolt and I want to try out the  RICE stuff

did you wire your first strips the right way (arrow) ?

The resistor is really needed even if it could work without (if the data wire is super short for instance)

The purpose of the resistor is to limit current to the data pin.  It can function without it, but it is there for a reason and should be included.  There are scenarios which can kill your strip if it is not included.

such as?
I could only think of one and I don't think it happens from Ervs boards

The purpose of the resistor is not to limit the current even though based on Ohm's law you will have a current limit action.
But a side of this the current is naturally limited on my board data pin anyhow.

So what is the purpose then?
