SOLVED! - Prizm v5 R.I.C.E wiil not read config
« on: June 12, 2017, 09:04:41 AM »
FYI, SOLVED...
********************************

Hi All,

I just wired up my new Prizm v5 and connected it to my PC via the R.I.C.E cable.

The saber connects and and can tweak the settings live but (unlike the videos I watch) when I click "read cfg" I don't see the name of the custom sound fonts I purchased (from saberfont.com).

Also, It doesn't seem to save all my settings. When I disconnect and reconnect, the interface shows all defaults.

I have done a quick format and then a full format of the SC card and copied my 3 fonts back to the card.

I had better luck manually tweaking settings in the text files but I really want the RICE port and software to work for me.

What can I do differently?

Thanks,
Lonewind

when you click connect, do you receive the "echo" message ?
if not, from what you describe, you have one wire not working (board tx => computer Rx). Check your RICE port

Hello Erv,

No I do not get the "echo" message.  I will check the wiring. Thanks!

you might double check the recharge port itself and how the male jack goes in there. To me it's just a connection between the 2 and it's very common, depends how the male and female jacks are matching

Hi Erv,

I took the three wires from the recharge port and did the following:
1. I wired the negative directly to the board negative
2. I swapped the TX and RX wires back and forth - testing in between.

Still the same behavior - I can connect to the saber, confirmed by the COM port appearing on auto-scan and being able to change the saber volume.  However, I do not get the echo message and read config still does nothing.

I got all my parts from TCSS.

Any ideas?

Appreciate your input on my issue.
Cheers!

if you don't get any download info going to the saber the RICE (board  side) Tx doesn't reach your cable, as simple as that. Or it's dead in the USB cable / jack.

Try hooking up your RICE port ground to the battery/recharge negative instead of the board ground.  The manual says something about grounding it to the battery to avoid issues.

It's not related. Above is linked to a possible ground loop via the recharge port and RICE port preventing the KK to work properly. The board TX signal isn't reaching the RICE cable

Hi,

I followed the manual carefully.  I put the wires back, the ground is wired to the battery recharge negative. Same result. Not sure why its not working. Could it be a bad RICE port?

Hello,

FIXED!  I ordered another RICE cable and RICE Port.  It turned out that my old RICE port was bad, new one works fine with both RICE cables and I get the "echo" prompt and all works well.

Very nice soundboard. Thanks for your help, Erv!

Regards,
Lonewind
Cheers!

so, you see, it was indeed a "wire" issue somewhere in the serial link :-)

glad it worked
