NBv4 - 6 die - heavy static from speaker
« on: June 08, 2017, 02:55:43 PM »
Good Afternoon!

I am nearing completion of a double-bladed build and am having some sound troubles...

Each LED module uses 2 Deep Red dice, left side on L1 and the right side on L2.  Each module has one White FoC, both wired to L3.  Initial testing went well.  I wired up the first module and tested everything with great results. Then I added the second module, and now there is mad static coming from the speaker.  The issue is gradual too, which is odd.  At first everything sounds fine, but the longer the saber is on the worse the sound gets.

1)  Yes, it is the stock SD card, though I reformatted (as usual) when I changed some of the settings (just the driver settings).
2)  Am I pushing the board too hard, trying to run six dice at once?
3)  The right side positive leg is wired to the recharge port positive terminal (an attempt to save space). I mention it because Erv asked about this in a similar thread awhile back. I know the NBv4 is supposed to help with voltage ripple, but would having the board pos, batt pos, and led pos wired to the same spot defeat that feature of the board?

Thanks! :azn:

Most likely your battery capacity is too low. Try a full charge and see if that makes any difference.

I plugged it in and the charger says the battery is full (green).  :azn:

I tried two different chargers, testing both on known working sabers, and they both function normally.

I am going to try disconnecting one red die from each side and see what happens...

bottom line : what you heard is the battery voltage ripple due to not being able to drive all the load. It can be (most likely) a wrong resistor on your led, especially for a red. Leds Vf must be measured.

The increasing static goes with the battery being depleted and the voltage dropping as well as rippling.

Thank you, good sir!  I was never a fan of single-board setups for double-bladed sabers anyway. Now I have a quantifiable justification going forward.

What if this is happening and all of the parameters were properly followed...even using a bench tester to find exact vf for the Tri-LED?

2 reds, 1 white with a Solo's Hold 18650 Panasonic on it.

It started out fine...and after 1 week...it starts with heavy static?

Any suggestions?

Did you configure your board for deep sleep ? are you talking about 1 week unused let alone or with a kill key ?

Please post a video and wiring pictures, thanks

Hey all. I ran into this problem as well! Using a Tri-Cree BBW (W is FoC), BB has two 1Ohm 2W resistors on the positive wire. I have a 5mm LED wired for deep sleep as well. I'll try and post a video soon.

Your battery doesn't handle the load or isnt charged
