Aoyue 469 power indicator light
« on: December 03, 2016, 07:45:52 AM »
I'm very happy with the value of my purchase of the Aoyue 469 for $30, replacing an older Weller that just wasn't getting it done anymore.  It's not without it's issues, but it heats quickly and works very reliably.  My biggest issue is that power on indicator light.  Unless you look at it carefully it's easy to miss that the unit is still on.  There's been a couple times I accidentally left it on.  I've actually taken to tapping the iron holder with my hand to see if it's warm instead of looking at the light.

A couple tinkerers have posted walk throughs for replacing the like with brighter external bulb.  I know more than a few people here use the same unit,  has anyone attempted this surgery?  For the $30 replacement cost, I'm not really all that concerned about voiding my warranty to fix this potential safety issue.
