Ahem... hello. I've been saying before that I'd post a review of my Mace as soon as I got it. Well, luckily, I am posting it now, since my saber came about 5 hours ago.
Mace Windu ROTS 2005 Force FX Lightsaber:
Ahh, Jedi Master Mace Windu. He is on the Jedi Council, and is said to be second in line after Yoda. Mace Windu's lightsaber was first seen in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. It was a powerful weapon, a weapon of a true Jedi warrior. Solid chrome with gold and black rubber surrounding most of the saber. It was truly a magnificent saber to stare at, but to hold it is much different. Here is a pic of the complete hilt in daylight:
(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg386.imageshack.us%2Fimg386%2F746%2Fmacewindu12ga.jpg&hash=e1d110b6b8dcf294fafa76613ccaaebaee8714c8) (http://imageshack.us)
Yes, as you can see, most of the hilt is polished chrome. Although, in the middle, there is a part with gold, and little bumps that surround the rings. I believe it is basic 14K gold platted around 10-20 times, making it useful, but eventually, it will ware off if gloves aren't used. On the opposite side of the three gold triangles is a hard rubber piece tht has little raised lines going through it. The bottom has the buckle for the belt, and the copyright sign appears on the side of the black rubber tubes. Although, the hilt has a hefty weight to it. It's not as heavy as you would think, but it still can get you when dueling. It's not so big actually. It's about as large as the other ones, it is just big all around.
Here are some more pics of the hilt:
(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg470.imageshack.us%2Fimg470%2F7799%2Fmacewindu25cg.jpg&hash=19667c3164962fe9361cdb44c9eaf2a5adfb2f5c) (http://imageshack.us)

Now for the color and brightness. The color isn't light purple like you all say. ON my saber, it's actually a normal purple, not too dark, and not too light. Suprisingly, there is very little blotchiness at all. On camera you can see it, but in real life, it's not like that at all. I heard that MR said it was too expensive for purple LEDS, so they used blue and red fused. Brightness wise, it's just as bright as my ESB Luke. It really glows a nice purple in darkness, or at Dusk outside it can have a beautiful color combined with the magnificent hilt. Here is a pic of it in normal daylight:
(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg470.imageshack.us%2Fimg470%2F4984%2Fmacewindu55un.jpg&hash=2fc397a3eef0ffc7901d5458d9b36437939f3ed3) (http://imageshack.us)
Now, as for the sound. The sound is exactly the same as the other sabers, except you can hear a delightfu crispiness on this one. I like it, it sounds excellent. The clash sounds seem to be relly clear, and the hum sounds nice. After dueling for a while, the sound keeps up and doesen't get blurry. It's really nice because it's also pretty sensitive. So hitting it softly will activate the sounds. And this one doesen't skip like the others. It picks the sounds at random, whereas the others start about the 1st 10 or 15 the same. And unlike the others, it doesen't do 2 of the same in a row usually. That was a bad part of the others, but not this one.
Here is a full pic of complete darkness with the saber on:
(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg385.imageshack.us%2Fimg385%2F8523%2Fmacewindu66dn.jpg&hash=577901458f36bb6f53376bdad57ef346e1a5bb32) (http://imageshack.us)
Overall, the saber to me is completely PERFECT. In every way it looks and feels flawless. The polished chrome is amazingly shiny, and it feels great to hold. The rubber is comfortable to grip, and it doesen't get squishy. The sound is perfectly crisp. It's just the right volume, not too loud, and not too soft. The AOTC was wayyy too soft, and it would get blurry. The light on this one is perfect. It's super bright, but not eye hurting bright. The color shines perfect purple, not loo light, nor too dark. This saber is a must have for any Star Wars collector.
Sound: 10.0
Hilt:9.9
Brightness:9.7
Color:10.0

Great work! 8)
-
Gracias.
I was suprised that my saber was more purple than expected.
-
Very good!
Indeed the Blade does look a bit different.
-
nice review and pictures!
it looks very cool
i like the blade color
-
You guys are good folks around here...
I applaud you all with the niceness award.
Yes, to my suprise the blade was a beautiful color.
-
Great pictures, especially the beautiful ones of it lit.
-
Defiantly a big improvement from the old AOTC Mace. ;)
-
Very good review!
i like the 1rst picture with they saber ignited in normal day light ;)
-
Nice review. Looks much better than the older version, more brightness on the blade and better color. The old blade seemed more like a white blade with light glimmering purple, but this new colorfulness, takes my breath away. Nice looking pics btw. :o
-
Oh yes,
It is brighter than the last. I heard that it was the same blade, but then I compared it to my AOTC Mace and I said no way. It's definintly a new blade with more purple in it.
The sound is perfect, and the blade is ultra durable so far.
-
Is it really brighter or just more purplish color
-
Suprisingly, it was actually brighter than the AOTC. I compared the two right next to each other, and this was brighter.
I shall take a pic of the comparison, but I have a burnt out LED in my other one. But this one is truly brighter.
-
thanks i have been waiting for your review with eager anticipation since you mentioned you'd do it the other day. great work BTW
I am expecting a mace in next couple of weeks and am even more excited after reading this review.
nice one Mace
-
Are both sabers using a batch of fresh batteries, or something close to being fresh? Cause a worn down set could cause the difference.
-
Jack- Thank you, and you won't be dissapointed when you get yours.
Anakin- They both have fresh new E2 titaniums applied.
-
Hello! What a great review! :o
Can I copy pictures and use it in my website? ;)I will disclose your name(ID). :D
-
I pmed you.
And uyes, you may surely use my review. Just make sure you show that it's by Steve Randall.

Greetings from the Netherlands.
Thanks you, you, you,... now I have to buy a Mace too. Do you know how much money I have to spend an my saber addiction.
Its terrible.
How do I explain this to my wife.
But now I really want this Mace saber.
Thanks for nothing.
Your review is a bit too good.
Your friend Darth Matth.

I pmed you.
And uyes, you may surely use my review. Just make sure you show that it's by Steve Randall.
Is it you Darth Randall ?
-
Huh? No that's not me... Steve Randall is my name. Or as my students call me, Randog. Lol.
Darth Matth-
Hello! I suggest if you don't want to spend oogles of money on it, go to America's Ebay, and you can get one there for about 100 or 95 bucks.
Thanks for the compliment, and may the force be with you.
-
Darth Matth, I have the similar problem. There's only one netshop selling force fx lighsabers in my country and the Mace fx costs over 200 euros. It's really expensive, but I must have it, even though it costs so much. Perhaps I should start looking how much are the shipping costs from other country's.
-
Greettings from Holland
I ordered the Ani/Vad sabers by The Saber Vault and its very cheap at first but shippingcosts to the Netherlands make it 110 Euro's a saber, and that is still a very good price, but I don't know if there will be any extra tax by the border. So its a dark surprise maybe afterall.
I saw the Mace here in Holland for 120 Euro's by Gator.
For sending it to me it costs me another 15 Euro's
I can get it myself by train but that cost me 15 Euro's too.
If the sabers are still 110 Euro's when they are on my doorstep I order my next saber at the sabervault again otherwise I buy it here in Holland.
When I buy more sabers together by www.thesabervault.com shipment costs are going down a saber. So when the next gen sabers come out I think I'll be back there.
Your friend Darth Matth
-
AS I said,
Go to an Ebay auction on the America Ebay Site and ask how much international shipping is. Probably like 30-40 bucks. So 90 + 30 or 140 is only like 120 or 130. So, that's a good price for overseas.
-
WONDERFUL REVIEW,
Love the pics that makes me want a mace now !
-
Thank you too Darth Vader.
I am honored you think it's so good. I'm also glad, my goal is to show you the new Mace is really nice.
ESB Luke Review: Coming within 2 hours.
-
Nice review. Good pics too.
-
My Mace ROTS box says glowing bright purple blade on, does anyone here have that same thing? Just checking cause I know the ATOC box said red
-
My ROTS box also says glowing purple blade. And my AOTC box says glowing purple blade too, but it's one of the first Mace releases (old style packaging).
-

The first pic, you can see the splotchyness sorta, and the second pic well thats just a beaut! I can't wait till i get my hands on one of those!
-
You should be warned that your FX will look like some combination of the two pictures (in case you weren't aware). You can see the purple color and splotches, but you won't get the white core like in the second picture. And it will be brighter than in the first picture.
-
K thanks alot Maul. ya my friend is getting a new Mace, so i'll his out and then see from there, ill prob. still get it because it looks pretty sweet.
-
In the 1rst pic it looks bright and beautiful!
-
I'm not too sure about getting this saber... it doesn't seem to fit my tastes that much.... i saw one in person at Frank and Sons Collectible Toy Show, but it didn't impress me much......
Why were purple LED's too expensive to buy??? The blotchiness shows a lot more clearly in this blade than in my other ones.... and i only held the blade for a short time.... However, since this is the only other blade out that's readily available, i might have to feed my FX saber addiction and get one anyways, despite my dislikes of it...
-
My Mace I think has a nice purple color to it and you can see the LEDS strung up the blade like the Vader ESB but only slightly.
-
Really,
There is not much blotchiness. IT's the same as every other blade.
-
Yeah but with the Vader and even the new Luke you can see the LEDS strung up its just they way the are made, but no blotches

Purple LEDs are too expensive since red, blue, and green LEDs can be bought at a much higher discount than purple LEDs; not to mention that MR already had blue ones available, so it was easier (and cheaper) for them to use blue LEDs with red foam than to go and purchase purple LEDs.
The Mace shows blotches more easily simply because it uses foam that's been painted red to give the purple color, which doesn't look nearly as nice and uniform as if it were just blue or red LEDs. You can also make out the lines of red along the foam, so that certainly doesn't help the blotchiness.
I happen to love my Mace, but I understand it's not for everyone. However, the Anakin ROTS and Vader ESB should be more readily available than the Mace now, so you can go down that road if you don't like the Mace. Just don't go and buy a lightsaber even if you don't like it; because then, you're missing out on 64.35% of the magic of an FX. ;)
-
i see i see... is there a difference in other people's light sabers?? when i saw a Mace in person... at glance the blade is light purple... but anytime you take a closer look at any FX saber... u can see the LED rings... and on the Mace i could see the blue and the red seperately....
maybe it was just my mind telling that i see blue and red since i knew that's how the purple was made.... So yea.... if i don't look too closely at the blade.... i like it....

Yeah, that's about right on for the Mace. It looks light purple from a distance, but up close, you can see the blue and red separately. It can be a little disconcerting to see the red and blue when all the other sabers are solid single colors. The purple is pretty nice, but like I said before, don't buy the Mace if you don't feel really excited about it. That is, unless you're trying to collect all the FXs, in which case, buy the Mace! ;)

I'm planning to get one soon and I don't think it won't bother me with the difference of the LEDs as long as it works perfect. I first gotta get Luke ESB then I'll get the rest. Good review though, it's always good to know.

I just made a Mace Windu 2005 ROTS video and put it in the gallery.

Greetings from Holland.
Can someone tell me, if the batteries less twice as long as in the Vader ESB or Anakin ROTS, because the Mace ROTS has Vader equipment now and has six batteries instead of three as in the Vader?
Your friend Darth Matth.
-
I find that the 6 battery saber last as long as the 3 battery sabers depedning on what batteries you use
-
Thanks I'm not buying it.
Your friend Darth Matth.
-
I would take the Mace ROTS over the Luke ROTJ anyday
-
why do you prefer the mace so much over the Luke, i love both of mine, but if i had to choose i would keep the Luke, its so bright and its green. if its a hilt thing, then yes the hilt of the mace is great looking. but the luke sounds are louder and clearer also.
-
I like the Anakin ROTS one.
-
Thats cool.
I love my Mace Windu FX so much. I think the hilt is the best.
-
you think MR will ever come out w/ true purple LED's or is that just a pipe dream???
-
no i dont think we will get a true purple led blade, they are too expensive and with two editions of the windu out there, they are unlikely to do another one i am afraid.
-
i believe your right han....its ashame though :-\
-
cool i am getting one from MR
-
Superb review!
-
Why not make a movie of it? An idea? I would be interested ;D
-
At the time Han I was having problems with the Luke ROTJ now that has been solved the Luke is better than the Mace ROTS but I do like the Mace ROTS.
-
i miss my mace ROTS sometimes, especially as my sabers are now on display fixed to a wall. i would have had to put at least one saber at the opposite end of the wall, i will have to do this when i eventually order a obi wan ROTS.
i soldt the windu to buy an RC indoor helicopter to play with my son. i liked the fact it was purple, but the FXvsLE thread really made it look a bit of a joke TBH. if i see one cheap one day i would buy it again but not till i have a bit more money coming in.
-
Oh sure Han, just blame me! :D
You are right though, before I put them next to each other for the review (http://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/index.php?topic=3588.0), I didn't realize just how striking the differences were myself.
-
dont worry luke i was not blaming you :D
but it was my least favourite and i needed £60 quick, when i saw the LEvsFX pic it just confirmed it for me.
-
They really do make for a striking picture:
(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi11.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa178%2Fbenlurkin%2Fmaces2.jpg&hash=1033d61417cf209162e1303f7ccd7308a53a93b0) (http://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/index.php?topic=3588.0)
-
well in reality....the 2 really arent that much different. well not in my eyes anyway
-
The details are very well done indeed but the size difference is quite surprising to see for the first time.
