MR Qui-gon LE conversion for Scottjua
« on: September 06, 2012, 08:27:52 AM »
This saber started life as a solid static Limited Edition Qui-gon, manufactured by Master Replica's.  The emitter/neck section was a 3-part piece, held together with a long threaded bolt and nut.  Took a while to get TO the bolt, and then to get the bolt out.  Lots of boring and milling later, as well as a complete dissassembly and re-assembly left us with this:

MR Qui-Gon Limited Edition saber
PC2.0 running FATES
Tri-rebel GGW with GG for main, W for FoC
7.4v 14500 li-on battery pack
1.3mm recharge port beneath screw on pommel
rectangular 2w 8ohm speaker positioned mid hilt
hidden/recessed main/aux switch placed in one of the shrouds cutouts
1" blade opening

Select build pics:

The neck and emitter section and securing them to the main body and getting what I needed to fit inside there were by far the most difficult part of this build. Still need to drill and tap the blade retention screw but figured I'd get this one posted  ;)

Wow thats pretty cool, I can't recall anyone doing this to a MR solid before.
 Nice work!

Indeed, I did a stunt conversion back in '09 and MH did one in early '11.  Scottjua wanted a look similiar to what MH achieved with the brass rods and all, so I did my best to oblige  ;D

Funny you posted this, i was just thinking about doing one after i finish my dooku.  How is the volume with that speaker placement?  I was thinking about boring out the bottom a little bit and putting my speaker in front of the pommel (ala MH i guess).

Volume is loud enough to elicit the dreaded 'death-glare' from the wife  ;D  It emenates right out around the grip section and is really difficult to muffle.  I thought about going the pommel speaker route, but in looking at that section and comparing it against where it was under the shroud, I woulda definitely needed to add additional sound holes.  This setup allows the no-additional hole setup.

the biggest PITA was the neck section and fitting the batteries in there, and securing the entire thing together sans threaded rod.  ugh!  :P

Yeah, i can imagine.  I'm gonna have the same type of problem with my dooku.  I'm thinking a few hollow couplers will do the trick.

Wow that looks great. I have never seen a LE conversion before.  :)

Haha... Well, it's a fool's errand, boy. The Emperor's army is infinite. You'll eventually be killed... or worse... and nothing will have changed.

After seeing Mh's I really wanted it and was actually why I passed up on the VV/SC spot I had locked in.

So naturally I really really hope this is awesome. An accurate qui Gon is hard to come by.

Any idea on when it'll get back to me again? ;)

Awesome build KIT! Funnily enough I was looking at MH's conversion of the Qui LE last night. LE conversions are really cool. I love when the sound resonates from the grip section of a saber too :)

Congrats Scottjua!

I don't recall the stunt.  Got a pic?  I thought I was the only one that did anything with an LE before this one.  I do have a little bit of an ego so I gotta claim first.

Nice job btw  ;)

Thanks MH  :D

I've only got a few that I put on photobucket of the stunt one I did, the build pics I think got lost when my desktop took a breeze in '10, but these at least show it with light  ;D  Definitely couldn't fit in a soundboard or speaker at the time, you defo got that claim to fame  :P

It was a lux III green running off 2 of those non-rechargeable 3.6v batteries used in cameras.  If I still had that, it would be prime for a redux!

Gotcha.  That looks like a larbel instead of an MRLE though with the silver ring under the red button and it looks like its got the straight grip grooves instead of the curved.

You know, looking at them again, I think you're right.  Think that is indeed a larbel.  Musta lost the LE ones with a bunch of the others.  Ah well, it was nothing fancy to look at that's for sure!   ;D
