Liberty, a TOR Inspired CF'd MHS
« on: August 09, 2013, 12:39:04 AM »
Hey..

Been another year since I built the Assassin and coming back to the hobby I was amazed by all the new technology such as RICE and cEX especially and of course if I was to build another saber it HAD to have these things.

I wanted something TOR inspired, trying out some new MHS parts, design another 3D-printed chassis and engrave. So this is what I came up with.

The engraving on this hilt has two ornate birds with the Light/Dark symbols from TOR. Designing the engraving took about 7 hours while the process itself took ~3.

Specs
-MHS based hilt with acrylic paints-
-CFv6.5 with the color Xtender-
-7.4v 2900 mAh Li-Ion pack-
-LEDengin 10W BRG(W)-
-RICE and recharge ports in the chassis-

Here's the IMGUR album for even bigger pics TOR Lightsaber - Imgur

The emitter has black accents and simple ornate engraving going around the base of it.
The blank MHS gear is just that and has no mods as of right now. The clamp is an MHS Clamp #7 that I had to cut a section off at the bottom to make it fit. (Was too small ID even without the black painting) The engraved section is a black-painted 3" DF and has a gold-painted trim ring. Pommel has a brass insert.

Getting everything to fit inside the chassis was a challenge but not exceptionally difficult. What was really hard though was routing the switch wires through a hole to the control box. This process took around 5 hours alone and in the end I used a small piece of pink plastic straw to route them through.
Saber is painfully loud on vol=4 setting, on the video and it's always set on vol=2  ;)

Thanks for looking  8)

That is why I prefer Acid etching lol, still takes a long time to design and make the template but the process itself just requires watching the time to make sure its not in there too long :P

Nice looking saber though, like that the chassis is 3D printed as I am going to be attempting this very shortly. I like the TOR inspiration, TOR offers so much more to saber building :)

Your engravings always amaze me. Well done as always just a beautiful saber and work of art.

Great job. I like it, loving the Old Republic influences.

BTW the "imperfections" you refer to in the video add to the character of the saber. Especially considering SW is a used universe. :)

I know. I am a big fan of the "not-quite-AFBB-but-not-trashed-either" look  8)
However I would've preferred the engraving to be spot on perfect and then work from there, but hey I still like it.

May I ask where you got your PVC for the chassis?

Chassis was designed by me and then 3D printed in Strong & flexible (Nylon?) plastic for me by Shapeways, no PVC was used/cut.

Any chance you'll charge the design? ;)

How and where is the chassis secured, btw??

If you're looking for a chassis like this, you can PM me to discuss further.

The chassis is secured by a screw within the box :)

Another beautiful sader on this form. I can never get enough of the creativity here. Me being a Marvel Comics fan this is epic. what's which are you using to make the color change?
