SMD LEDS on different pads
« on: February 17, 2018, 11:13:26 AM »
I've been watching Rob's videos and am curious about the placement of his SMD leds.  It appears to me he doesn't place them on the accent pads instead they appear to be placed on the pads for the SMT resistors. I'm wondering if I try this will it work? I know the negative needs to go to the negative pad with the two switches. I didn't know this was possible, it doesn't mention from what I can see anything about it in the manual. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks! [][/img]

It “can” be done that way, HOWEVER, it will only usually work for colors that take 3.3V to run (Blues, Greens and such), colors like are, you will need to resistor somehow, which isn’t good if you are trying to line up the LEDs in a row.

I find your arguments vague and unconvincing.

Quiet! *Slap* And there’s a fresh one if you mouth off again.

Ya I sort of figured reds and ambers were out. Getting a resistor in there would be beyond me. Do you need to solder the smd to both pads and still run the negative? Or  does it just need the positive to touch one of the two pads, I’m assuming that’s right.  Does it need to be bridged?

You would need to solder to both SMD pads, and THEN run the negative wire(s).
