MHS Luke V2 questions.
« on: May 05, 2011, 06:11:59 PM »
Hi, I just got my MHS V2 parts in.  i have the ROTJ ring extension peace and the choke as 2 peaces.

my question is,  What do people usually do for the black parts on Luke V2s? do they use paint? or a fabric or tape of some sort?  Also if u do use paint, do u have to sand the parts u want painted for the paint to stick?  if so, what grit sand paper do u use?

You should PM Ducous Rossis. He uses something (but I can't recall what it is) to blacken aluminum. It gives a really nice weathering effect.

You want a clean V2? Sorry, I wasn't getting that. Most of the V2s I've seen were weathered.

You have two options, IMO, paint it and bake it your self or get it powder coated (of course, you can powder coat it yourself too if you want)

Jango used epoxy paint. It works really well. I like it. It gives a nice wet black look. Just my 2 cents.

Acrylic paint.

Some light sanding before painting, then a few layers of acrylic. Works really well, especially if you want a clean look, it's shiny and durable, as long as you put more layers than one.

If you use acrylic, I'd make sure you at least put on a layer of clear coat too....   It'll add to the durability...

Very light, so that you won't round any corners, just to remove the oxidized layer from the aluminium.
