Talk about culture shock, my sister lived in San Diego for almost 20 years before coming to live with me in February.  People around here almost made her cry until I explained that the attitude we have of not talking to people on line in the grocery store or saying HI to total strangers isn't something personal, just the way we are.  Takes us a bit longer to warm up to people than it does those So Cali folks!

Yeah, I know aallll about rude people and culture shock! Living in the Netherlands and how different sights, sounds and people were from where I live, and the Netherlands has been voted the country with the rudest people in the entire world! And I can vouch for that! Like almost being ran over by another shopping cart while waiting for the one in front of me to move because I was "in the way", THEN getting left behind by a Tram with my then best friend still on it! I had to walk all the way across the center of Rotterdam to get to the next stop...BY MYSELF!! Good thing I knew where I was going...

     I'll tell ya-- I lived in Jersey all of my life (not counting summers in the Poconos) except for one year, which I spent just outside of Portland, OR.  Terrifically nice place... but for a kid who grew up in Jersey City and spent so much time in NY, it just didn't work for me.  Have you guys ever seen My Blue Heaven with Steve Martin?  Yeah.  That's kind of the way I felt.  We just have a different way of doing everything here in the northeast!

     Okay... because I know he won't get off his butt and upload one himself, here's a pic of my bud (and fellow forum member) Yannus Nosevi.  It was at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia a few months ago.  The youngling he's holding is his padawan son.  The one with the big ears in the background is some 900-year-old guy that just happened to be there too.

Funny you should ask that Ben:

I happen to be working with Andrea and Garry of Twin Roses on my costume.  In typical Je-Rel fashion, I'm going totally nuts, and hopefully will have it in time for Halloween.

More pics to come, as Labor Day is big fun at the NY Ren Faire - the Food Network will be there.  Maybe Bobby Flay will show us how to do a turkey leg right!

**edited to add**  Sorry. The pictures were posted in a fit of hubris, but I recovered.  All better now!  My Jedi costume will be much better.
