Graflex DIY Kit modifications
« on: December 05, 2011, 11:49:21 AM »
Hello there, I thought it would be a nice idea to start a thread where everyone can post his/her modifications of Master Yoda's Graflex DIY Kit.

let met start with a modification I tried during the building process of my kit, but it didn't work because I had the wrong CR123 battery holders.
So here is my CR123 battery mod, this time with the right cell holders and a minimum of modification ;-)

correct CR123 holder:
http://www.batteryspace.com/batteryholdercr123abatteryholderwitheasyin-outbatteryinsertionandremoval-rohscompliant.aspx

the only things I had to do, where grind the bottom of the holders to get rid of the plastic pins, cut the contact pins off, insulated the
2 areas of the contact pins between the holders, glued them together, drilled a channel on the bottom side of the holder to connect positive
and negative and drilled another channel on the top for the pos and neg. wires. a little bit of a sanding job and evoila, DIY chassis with
CR123 holder and without length correction of the chassis  ;)

hope you like it!

EDIT: I didn't use glue to hold the holder in place, it fits so nicely into the chassis that there is no need for gluing it together!  :D

thx jetsaber! now the chassis is even short enough to fit the parks graflex phase saber shell, without the need of grinding the screws from the t-grips down  ;)

so can you use a 2w speaker with this setup and a bit more modding?

should be possible, maybe yoda can offer some extra speaker-chamber rings for a 2 w speaker setup!
EDIT: it is surely possible if the screws in the bottom shell are sanded down to the ID of the shell ( plenty of space ).
the DIY kit has a smaller crystal chamber than the drilled quartz editions!
i could take the exact measurements later this day ( i think it is enough room for a resonance chamber too )

Nice mod Egon
I've looked at fitting an extra ring to the DIY kit for the 2W speakers. I'm pretty sure it'd hit the screws that hold the speaker section together on the bottom of the 3cell if you didn't do Egon's mod and change the DIY kit from AA/14500 sized battery chamber to something shorter like these CR123, that and sourcing the longer threaded screws.
Reckon I'll give it a go, but try 1st with 14500s.
it's all Elemental

That's my thinking too. Gotta get the initial build as per instructions right frat before I try modding it :p

i have done so, i think it's better to do the regular building before modding anything!

this isn't really a "mod" but it helps to display the saber with a lit crystal  without the need to have the saber activated in the stand, shadow box etc...

5mm clear blue led
black plastic box
slide power switch
CR123 battery holder
