Does copper go with chrome? I ask you forum members ... my idea for a hilt
-
Why not? Remember, it's your saber, if you like this color combo, go for it! The Luke ROTJ V1 is basicly weathered chrome, copper and alittle black, so go for it!
-
yes
-
I always preferred brass... but copper is good too! ;) 8) 8) As long as it isn't MR's copper paint! ;D
-
Caden, didn't you mean orange paint?

To MR, it's the same difference. ;D ;D I'm hoping that mine will wear off as I handle the saber. ::) :P

I find that theres one major Con..... corrosion.... >:(....when i was doing my junior cert metalshop project this year we had to use hairspray to prevent corrosion..... i have a feeling that this saber may be high maintenance...ah well i'll be selling it anyway
-
Yep, copper corrodes, unles you have it polished and then clear coated. Clear powdercoating will take care of that, if you're able, or know someone that could do it for you.....like Master Jedye of Gemini Concepts. ;)

Dang you're quick. I was just coming to say that.
Clear coat is the way to go!

I have a set of solid copper pans that pretty much are used for display. Every few months I polish them with brasso and they stay looking good.
If you handle them very often they tarnish with dark fingerprints. But a quick polish restores them easily.

Copper/chrome, copper/aluminum, it doesn't matter. A contrast of color is a great way to make a beautiful saber! Even if the copper ages, it still looks cool in my opinion. I say go for it! An added benefit of copper is that it's a softer metal, like aluminum (but not AS soft as aluminum), so it's pretty easy to drill and tap. However, I've had terrible luck trying to clear coat copper. If you want it to stay shiny, I'd recommend having it clear powder coated.
Since we're on the subject, does anyone know of a really good clear coat to use on copper?

Yes copper does go with chrome, but the blade color might become dependent on the overall color of the saber. I don't know if blue or green would really match. Purple, red might be the best color schemes to match with copper and chrome.
-
Blue with copper might be an interesting combo, actually.

Really? I love green with copper!!! I also like copper, chrome, and brass in a hilt :D We have had several requests for copper with blue too so I guess it is one of those personal preference things ;) Look forward to seeing your completed work, Darth Frodo :)

You be the judge-
and yes it is real copper, my hands have a green tinge to them every time I finish an event or saber practice... just FYI

Do I detect a Parks pommel on that? I think copper goes with chrome though copper gradually oxidizes and changes color into an ugly greenish which might not be too pleasant. Though with the proper coating, it will last a lot longer.
-
Of course, if you like the oxidized look...
-
Okay I guess i was wrong, that green saber color does look nice with the copper.
-
if you want to keep the "Shiny new Penny" look, then "Bar Keeper's friend" is your friend too. ;D
really that's what its called. its an awesome polish/cleanser that keeps the Oxidation down.

Also, though it isn't really chromed, the Luke ROTJ has copper parts bordering silver. So aparrently Lucas believes copper goes with chrome.
