Title: Don't like the Mace!!!
Post by: Darth Matth on February 05, 2006, 02:03:29 PM
Greetings.

I bought a Mace Windu ROTS lightsaber.
I already had an Ani and Vader, and people who have read my review about them know, I love them, but not from the start, because I expected them to be more real.(brighter and louder)
Read "'Real lightsabers"
I really loved the hilts right away do.
Than I wanted more of these and saw the Luke ROTJ. (To light and a bit toyish)
Read "Saw Luke ROTJ"
Than I saw pictures of the Mace, and in a picture it sometimes looks brighter than the Ani, and the hilt seems to be a bit smaller than the Ani.
I really love trhe story of how Samuel L. Jackson gets his saber-hilt by George Lukas himself and how Sammy wanted a purple blade.
So I started to want one for myself.
I ordered some sabers for my friends too to get the shipment lower.
An Ani and Mace for one, a Vader for the other and a Mace for myself at www.thesabervault.com.
When I unpacked the Mace, I saw it was not so small as in those pictures.
It rather feels like a big xxx.
I don't understand wy people say that they love a Gen 2 saber above a Gen 3.
The new sabers are very true to the real thing.
The original Mace is very ellegant, this thing not.
As long as I keep it on my wall and view it from a distance it is beautyfull.
If you take it in your hand it feels much to big.
The weight is no problem, it really feels like how it looks.
When you put it on, its getting more worse.
It is a red bleeding blue blade, aspecially in the dark and not only upclose, but from a distance too.
We have two of these sabers here and showed them to many people and everybody says the same thing "IT IS BLUE"
An other thing about the blade is that it's not glowing as the Ani and Vader.
It looks difuse. ( yes we bought new Duracell Ultra M3 for the new sabers too).
The sounds are good aspecially the clashsounds, they are louder than the humming and that's how it's suppose to be.
Quallity is not as good as the Ani, but I like the clash-sounds more.
Before there where Gen 3 sabers I can imagen this was a thing of beauty, but not anymore.
They improved the sounds on the Mace ROTS but the hilt is way to big and the blade to bloody, difuse and blue.
I really can't decide if I'm going to sell the Mace.
The Gen 3 sabers are great and the Gen 4 sabers wil even be more great.
For that I will buy the complete Maul and an Obi-Wan.

Remember, unless MR makes a re-release of the Mace saber it will be a collectors in years to come, as the only purple saber (especially if you have the box that says it has a red blade)

There are however a heap of blue sabers and will be a heap of red sabers (hopefully)

Something to think about.

Cheers

Dave

Hold onto it and wait for Hyperdyne to make an upgrade for it.  Thats what I'm going to do, as I can't stand the purple blade MR put in it.  Hopefully he'll have some available by the end of the year.

ok i see your point with the blotchy blade, but try this for me please.

take your sabers outside in the dark one night, give your eyes time to adjust to the darkness (`10 minutes) before you turn them on.  after about 10mins switch on your mace, the purple colour is far more noticeable in this light and with your eyes accustomed to the darkness.  of all the sabers i would say mace's is an outdoor only saber becuase of this reason.

I know what you mean about seeing the red and blue contrast in the blade but mine looks
like it has a purple glow with a hint of blue. Maybe it's because no one sees color quite the same
way that there seems to be a difference in opinion regarding this saber.

Darth Malak, it was your picture I saw, where  the Mace looks smaller than the Ani. (To me)
GioFX, maybe your right but a lot of people say it is a blue blade.
The blotchness is red and the two lines are red, so it looks like a red bleeding blue blade.
The part that I find very disapointing is that the blade is very difuse.
It doesn't glow.
Maybe because I already have the Ani and Vader and I compare them.
I understand that the red inside the white core, difuses the LEDlight.
It's how it is.
Only purple LEDs can make a differance, but those LEDs have a very short live.

I showed a small avi of a duel between me (mace) and my friend (luke green)
and a lot of friend are asking me "hey it's the anakin blue?", of course anakin
is very bright blue but these friends dont own any saber so ....

I have to say, that your picture, below your comment, shows the true effect of the Mace on the monitor where I'm sitting right now. I've seen pictures where the Mace was much brighter than the Ani

naa.... anyway it's only a picture, in reality I see the "blotchiness" ever, and very well :-(
if you have the patience to see a couple of drunken jedi there is the small clip I said:
http://www.giofx.net/images/duelshort.avi
(oh I think it requires divx6) someone can understand it's purple and not blue? :-)

I have to agree with Han, because I myself have a Mace Windu FX and when I first got it, I thought it looked like a more lightish blue than purple. But I took it outside and played with it for about 10-15 minutes, and I looked at it, and it seemed a lot more purple than lightish blue.

As for the hilt, personally, I LOVE the hilt. The only thing I thought was wrong with it, is it doesn't have that oval-y shape like the real saber, or like it shows on the box.

its definately the weakest of the lot out there even though it has a nice hilt...
i wouldnt recommend it, and for those who say its good to have as it will become 'a collectors item' once they cease production, is just an excuse u give to make urself feel better :P hahaha

I have it and can say it sucks, no small print or self-assurance necessary ;D

I really can't complain about my Mace.  It grew on me over time, and I got it for a really cheap price.

I will evuntualy get a Mace just to complete the collection. However I hope there will be some kind of mod available to make the blade look better. Not to go to far off topic but Jin Ke, did you put the womans face in the moon over your right shoulder or is it just one of those wierd "I see a face in that picture" kinda thing?

Even though I didn't pay for mine (Won it through Amy's trivia contest), I still would say it's a good saber even if I did pay $100 for it. It's a good all around saber and still the most comfortable hilt of them all, hands down.

My .02 cents.
