Proto Saber Platform
« on: April 04, 2018, 12:39:40 PM »
After close to three years into developing both hardware and software for saber props I decided the time has come to introduce a new concept:

The Proto Saber Platform

The idea of the Proto Saber Platform is simple: build a saber core based on a proven and powerful architecture and offer a scalable set of software features for sabersmiths to choose from depending on what they want to build.

The advantage is clear: you always have the same board architecture with the same key features:
# same supply scheme
# same audio driver
# same charging method
# same signal layout
# same size
# same gesture detection engine

You can select from the available firmware options depending on what you want to achieve, from Duel over Entry up to solid Mid-range saber cores.

To this end I developed the Proto Saber Board as the backbone of the Platform.
It is based on the proven Stardust architecture, except for one major difference: the Proto Saber Board is not programmable. It already comes programmed for you!

No matter what firmware option you choose, you always get the best of a long journey in open source hardware development:
[Extreme compact size]: the Proto Board is tiny, 44mm x 21mm x 4.5mm
[Single Cell supply]: 3.7V Li-Ion operated
[Best in class audio]: 16-bit digital audio, 22.050ksample/sec, 3W audio amp - loudest saber core on the market with best sound quality in the targeted segment
[Dual Charging]: single Li-Ion can be charged via recharge port and via USB - you choose
[Ultra Low Quiescent Current]: low Deep Sleep Mode current guarantees long shelf life even if no kill key is used
[3 LED drivers on-board]: to drive either up to 3 dice of high power LEDs (aka RGB) or act as kill keys to neopixel stripes
[Advanced Gesture Detection Engine]: no matter what feature set you choose, the hardware will always come with the most advanced Gesture Detection Engine, ensuring that core features like clash and swing detections are always spot-on, while offering the possibility to expand the feature sets to include more advanced gesture detecion algorithms

The first members of the Plaform are already here, stay tuned!
