Where they the first to be discontinued? None of the other 04 minis seem to be rare.

From what i know.. the Obi Wan AOTC is rare. I still could get the Count Dooku a few months ago in Malaysia.

They *were* the first to be discontinued.  I'm not sure if they were also made in lesser quantities.

To answer the question, as stated before they were the first mini sabers made.  In 2004 two different display cases were made available for the sabers.  The 2004 sith set was composed of the battle damaged darth maul saber, the count dooku saber, and the vader anh saber.  The 2004 jedi collection was composed of luke's ROTJ saber, mace aotc saber, and the obi wan aotc saber.  The dooku and obi saber are rare simply because they weren't re-released like other sabers.  The ROTJ saber originally had blue felt in the box with a large COA.  The mace windu was also quite rare about a year or two ago until MR started to remake them.
