Rubber grip width
« on: October 10, 2008, 11:50:04 AM »
Could you tell me the average width of the rubber strips used for grips? Is it about 3/8" wide?

Thanks,

According to my digital calipers - out of 6 measured, the average width was 0.501"

Half inch would be a good estimation ;)

Yeah, 1/2 inch would be pretty close.  ;)

I was thinking about getting some really good double sided tape and needed to know how wide of tape to get (I don't have the grips yet). Or do you think the 3M VHB tape is good enough (that comes on most of the conversion grips)?

Is that the padded stuff?  If it is, then I'd say no... too thick.  If it's the single layer, then maybe a strip a little narrower than the grip itself.  I would highly recommend ESB syle... as in, screw them on, mechanically affix... even with tape you'll still get hair and stuff stucking out of the adhesives... just a personal preference.

Not padded. Just thin acrylic adhesive double sided tape. I guess I should I get 3/8" wide tape then. I kinda wanted to avoid extra drilling into the Graflex. I don't have a drill press and I'm lazy.

Yeah, that's a good idea too. I've seen those and thought about getting one so I don't have to drill holes in my vintage Graflex.

Did you receive it already? How is the quality? How well does it fit with your vintage piece?

It's King of parts... VERY trustworthy.  I'd say pretty high quality.  I've never been disappointed.

I'll probably pick one of those up before I do any drilling. I guess I'll end up with a ANH base and an ESB base.

You would then have Yoda's deluxe kit.  ;)  If you don't glue in your bubbles or computer strip you can easily have either saber you want. The only difference being the mylar tape.

Oh, did you get that one with the "best offer" deal? That was a really good deal if you did. The outside is already converted too.
