Is the metal version going to have the shrouds printed from alumide or made from conventional metal and etched? Also on the alumide kit, does this mean that the hilt is also alumide? Lastly, can the shrouds be detached as needed?   Definitely interested, just need to know some details so can decide which version... :)

Hi there :)

Is the metal version going to have the shrouds printed from alumide or made from conventional metal and etched? Metal and powdercoated.

Also on the alumide kit, does this mean that the hilt is also alumide? No, the hilt itself is machined aluminium. Only the greeblies and shroud are 3D printed alumide.

Lastly, can the shrouds be detached as needed? No, the shrouds will be permanently attached to the blade holder.

Hope this helps :)

Just wanted to chime in here since I'm lucky enough to have the POC saber for this run.

This is a beautiful hilt, excellently proportioned. It definitely became one of my favourite hilts right away.

I'd definitely recommend jumping on this run if you possibly do it! :)

Thanks

We are an official Belgian company so we need to charge 21% VAT for all sales within Europe. So everyone located in Europe will be charged this VAT.

I hope this answers your question?

Hi Turgon,
No, no CEX on this saber, sorry.... There just isn't any room and the Orgus Din saber is Character hilt. Orgus Din wields a blue hilt, that's why we decided to keep it a blue blade with white FoC.

Update:
List in the first post has been updated once more.

This run is ending soon! Anyone who wants in should decide today :)

Wow! I'm thoroughly impressed with this puppy. Great job! Oh, and you get a huge wad of bonus points for having "Sovengarde" and "Revival" on the isaber. I'm a been a hardcore Elder Scrolls fan since Morrowind, and of Halo since the beginning! (And yes, I do listen to their respective soundtracks on a regular basis.) Lol

These are looking really really good.

Question: Is there anything that can be done to the alumide parts to make it look darker/more like the metal version? Maybe some sort of metallic spray paint, or a clearcoat to darken the finish a bit?

Also, if someone had a spot on the run, would they be able to purchase the internal parts you guys used either directly packaged with the hilt for an additional charge or themselves via shapeways?

Thanks :)

Thanks for the kind words.

Regarding your questions:
To darken the alumide, you can spray paint it, no problem. But if I'm not mistaken, Turgon has figured out a way to realisicly weather and darken alumide.
We were not planning on offering the internals as a kit though.A lot of work went into them, and that's mostly the reason behind the price diffirence between a kit and a full install (apart from the electronics and hours of work off course)

No problem, thanks for the speedy response!

Hmm, I will have to talk to Turgon about it then ;) Hopefully the fact that the shroud is permanently attached won't get in the way of using his technique.

I completely understand where you are coming from in regards to the kit. I figured I would ask, as having the proper kit would make the installation that much more straightforward. However, with the ID measurements I am sure a similar chassis and speaker can could be fabricated, just maybe not quite as perfect as your guys' :)

I have been low profile of late.  combination of being re-hooked on computer games and having lots of pain medication due to a recent surgery.  Anyhow,  I'm still around and I have not been one to share many photos.  Mainly because I do not know what I am doing. But I do know how to weather stuff.  As for alumide,  I'll try these pictures to give you what I think is a good weathering:

(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1297.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fag29%2FRSMaxwell1971%2FGIF%2520Maker%2F19A0288F-33D8-426D-B2B4-8253F655C617_zps83wehjk6.gif&hash=ee9a59f6c36355919183af799fa1e5c85fa38512) (http://s1297.photobucket.com/user/RSMaxwell1971/media/GIF%20Maker/19A0288F-33D8-426D-B2B4-8253F655C617_zps83wehjk6.gif.html)

I may be pretty biased, but I think it looks damned good.  (If you are after that look.  If you are after the clean look then it is absolutely wrong, wrong, wrong.)  The photos do not do it justice.  They lack the depth of the final finish.

Anyhow,  if that looks like something that you would like to try,  I can share the recipe.  It is pretty simple, though it takes some specialized paints.  Most of the time when I do this technique, it is reversible.  With alumide and my final finish, it is VERY permanent.

A quick question: The engraver you show in the picture with the wooden section: what kind is it and would it be able to cut into aluminum? I've been wanting to experiment with engraving on the TCSS shroud material but my flexshaft doesn't seem to like working on the curved surface (may be too slippery) and I've been looking for alternative tools that could be used before trying to use the acid etch or Galv-etch approach. Any suggestions much appreciated!

I wouldn't recommend to use this type of engraver on aluminium or metal. Etching is probably the way to go.

I received my hilt today, and it's gorgeous. Those of you that passed on this are really going to regret it.
PM them now and beg to get in on this run.

Fantastic run - and great to see some of the process and skill and hard work that goes into these (and other) sabers ;)

Turgon - your weathering of the alumide is absolutely spot on (not just from your 'biased' perspective hahahaha) - nice work! - have sent a PM re the technique/process as could be helpful with a current (non-saber) project I'm working on...

With the exception of Links saber (due to personal circumstances) all Orgus Din hilts from this run have been finished, shipped and delivered to all who were involved.

Thanks again to everyone for signing in. I hope you enjoy your sabers and please, feel free to post an honest review of what you have received.
