Work in Progress: The Infinity Saber
« on: March 03, 2019, 07:02:15 PM »
This is an old idea I've had for a while, but I've had some new ideas recently that have been nagging me.  With May 4 coming soon enough, and the next Avengers coming out at the end of April, I temporarily shelved the 5 other incomplete projects I've got going right now to spend the weekend designing, printing, redesigning, and reprinting the shell for this saber.

The next step is designing the gems.  Each gem will activate a different font and blade color, when they are all activated together it will go into "INFINITY MODE" (all caps required). There will also be some surprises.  This will obviously require totally custom electronics.

I'm also considering making a Thanos inspired tabard to go with it.

I've been doing a lot of work behind the scenes, and documenting with photos as much as I have time to.  I'll share what I can after the saber debuts on Thursday, coincidentally, I'm hoping to finish it then!

In order to light up the gems I repurposed these PCBs.  Instead of a 3535 pixel, they now have a couple resistors and an LED. Originally the PCBs were intended to convert 12mm AV switches into pixels switches. (I'll note that most of the blobby soldering is intentional, as I needed to bridge/extend pads that weren't intended for tiny 0603 and 0805 components)

Check back later this week for the debut of this really unique and complex saber!
