FX-DUEL aTutorial with Pictures and instruction...
« on: July 08, 2005, 06:09:14 PM »
Hello Everyone

Well I've finished the tutorial on Duelling with your FX-Sabers.

It gives you instruction on defense and placement as well as a fight sequence
demonstrating these moves and some tips on safe duelling.

Obviously with a clash sound the blades are meant to be struck and allow
the sensor to be set off to make the noise.
As many have stated here in these forums The Saber is not a baseball bat.
I have not taken apart an FX Saber as of yet, but LEDtech is LEDtech and
so are motion sensors, now with that said.

The enemy of all is heat.

That's right Heat! those little lights heat up when left on for a long time.

Now you might not feel or even notice it,  but internally they are being heated
up just by being turned on and the longer you leave it on the more likely you
will blow one out if it is struck against something to hard or to much all at once.

I'll Give you an example: First I've designed and built RC CAR upgrade parts for years
and many of my cars have lights in the bodies.
Now a new light with few "ON HOURS" can take all kinds of impact with out ever even
flickering, but some of the lights that are older and have been turned on and off
quite a bit or have been on for hours at a time, will break upon hard impact!

And I mean a hard impact! And I usually find that the wire leading into the LED is
broken as opposed to the blub it self cracking as most LED Bulbs now are plastic.
So the culprit is that an LED has no way to dissipate it's own heat but they will last
a long time is cared for properly.

Just look at the computer your sitting in front of right now! Or mabey you have an
external Hard Drive, scanner.printer etc... all these use LED lights.
But they are not subjected to hard impacts but they turn on and off a lot and still keep
going right?
So what's the deal and how do we keep these FX-Sabers like new.

First- always use fresh batteries bad power will cause all kinds of problems especially
in the 2nd Gen models that need 6 batteries.
Try to Keep from leaving your blade "turned on for long periods of time" as this will
cause "heat sensitivity" anything more than Ten minutes at a time for Duels is really
to much, take a break in between.

Second- Duell Lightly only impact another blade or something of equivalent strength
and hardness. (The blades are really meant for each other)
That is why when you whack it against your bed the surface impact is to soft to register
in the hilt and the extra force used to hit something soft can cause the blade it's self to
become unseated in the hilt.
Now if you hit to hard a surface to quickly the same is true but it has the opposite effect,
which is more like turning up a stereo to loud and blowing a speaker due to to harsh an
immediate impact like to much trebble in your bass and so on.

Third- The impact it self, The FX blade only needs to be"tapped" enough to register
in the sound module any more and you're in risk of breaking the blades internals.
(You can practice your swing and impact control by hanging a tennis or foose ball
from you celling and pacticing swinging and stopping just before you hit it.)
(You'll know you've improved by being able to make the ball move without hitting it,
as just the force of the air being pushed by your blade will cause the ball to move
just before you hit it.)

Fourth- your swing speed! To fast can ruin the mount of the blade in the hilt
Just watch the Star Wars movies, they are dramatic and in a slower motion that any
real sword fight, so just pay attention to the films and the wide dramatic looking swings
they use for attacks.

Fith- Don't push it! there is the cool factor of locking your blade in battle but this isn't
good for the FX blade or any glued Polycarb blade as th glue will eventually give up over
time. Instead to achieve the same effect touch theblades and follow you opponent
around but, avoid the long term opposing push.

At the bottom of the 1st Page of this thread the tutorial is posted.
You will get a better Idea and it shows the appropriate
basic six zones around the body most commonly used in all staged swordplay.
I hope you will alll have fun with your FX Duels and become experts in swordplay over
time.
It's a lot of fun and a great excercise for the mind and body once you get used to
how it should be done.
Don't forget to be careful and watch your step while you are in battle.

Fantastic. First an MR rep answering questions on the forum and now a sword combat specialist giving us a practical guide on how to train and fight. Absolutely amazing i doubt theres a forum on the web that can touch fxsabers.com. Thanks Meridian for being so cool and sharing your experience and of course you have to thank Bigdog for starting this place.
