First quick impressions:

:o WOW. love the hilt, it is a little bit scratched but hey!!! It has been stored in Obi's chest for 20 or so years!!
  ;D Super bright blade!

OK now a short story:

I started talking about this saber with Yoda back in october i think, and asked a lot of questions, then i decided i wanted a blue hyperblade on a graflex made by him, so i contacted him again, and we waited for for halloween to be out of the way, and then we waited for parts being back in stock, and then we waited a little bit more, and finally we got all the parts and everything going. I was trying to figure out how to bring the saber to spain for free while Yoda was working on the saber.  Then I found a plan to bring the saber but it depended on the saber being in San Diego by the 27 or 28 of december.  So Yoda had to work on it restlessly and during the holidays! (bows master Yoda) Somehow he found a way to complete it, pack it, ship it to SD and at the same time deal with relatives in his house for the holidays and all of that matters.  All in all and NOT surprisingly, the saber is sweeeet!  He shipped it to San Diego where i got a friend waiting for it to take it into Mexico city.  There it stayed, safe and secret, at the hands of another friend of mine, who delivered it to yet another friend of mine who travelled from Mexico to Barcelona. And now i've got it.  Took it more than a month to make the trip from Yoda to me.  worth the wait? yes.

And now the review:

BLADE

Blade is super bright. Even in the first level of brightness (out of 9) it doesnt pale when exposed to direct light. I like it very much and I think
it is the main feature in hyper's design. Mine has the hypers nylon tube and the 3 piece board setup.  The blade has two dark spots on it, they are not much of a hassle but you can see them, comparable with the dark spot on the stock MR lightsabers. But two.  They are not very nice, but Yoda assembled the blade in a way that reduced this gaps to the max possible and in levels 4 - 9 of brightness they are really less noticeable and the dont bother me at all.  This can be solved by using the one piece board blade setups hyper is introducing soon (if not already).  Now that i have a hilt with hyper's driver I am definitely getting another one piece board blade or two. I want to see the green and the red of course.  All this possible to Yoda's crafts. He made the blade de-attachable, feature i will be describing in the "hilt" part of this review.  When the saber is off, the nylon tube has more opacity than the stock MR tubes.  The blade generates something like an aura around it, and if you look at it you can kinda see the white core and the blue aura around it.  Note: The blade doesnt light up in white, but after a little while your eyes get tired or something and it appears white.  (maybe i shouldnt be doing that  ;) )

HILT:

Sweet Vintage Graflex.  Man this hilt is my favorite.  Either the ANH or ESB are my favorites.  Althou i love the ANH the best.  I love the Anakin Rots too, cause it looks pretty much like a graflex. (it's the same saber story wise)  It has scratches, small ones, which i personally love, I find it more accurate, it even has the patent #2310165 on both bottoms. I knew this hilt was going to have them for being around for 40 years, it was my choice of a vintage over a replica.  I am sure i would love the replica as much.  The blade support clamp (rabbit ears) really work, they hold the blade in place.  The glass eye is awesome, the button on the back works and it is the push button switch to ignite/control the saber.  I have to graflex bottoms and can change them along with the bubble strip and the circuit.  Also the glass eye and the graflex button.  I love the way Yoda made this saber to hold the blade in place, first of all the blade support clamp makes an excellent job holding it tightly to the hilt, no wobble at all, nothing.  And then when screwing the glass eye or red button, instead of "piercing" the blade with the end of the screw, it pushes a sleeve holding the blade and tightens the whole surface that's in contact.  (what? did i explain myself? and Yoda: is this right or am I seeing stuff?  :D)
Anyway, i love how there is no wobble at all, that is amazing.  I wrote above that the brightness is the main feature of hyper's system, but this amazing construction and convertion deserves the award as this saber's main feature.  Love the hilt!

HYPERDYNE'S DRIVER:

Ok, this driver is very nice.  Here are the functions:

9 brightness levels.
Flicker effect.
Pulse effect.  (4 or 5 speeds)
Ignition speed:  (3 speeds)
7 V or 11 V battery modes.
Rumble feedback.

I have the 11 V battery.  I've tried the 9 brightness levels and i agree with master Yoda, that 4 or 5 is nice brightness/battery duration relation.
I am currently using brightness level 3 and it is already enough.  My girl went dizzy of watching it for 3 minutes hehe.   I've tried the flicker and i came to the conclusion it looks best in low levels of brightness,  but i prefer the pulse mode, mid speed.  Looks menacing and alive.  I cant decide on the ignition speed cause i like the 3 of them.  So i just change it a lot.  The push button works holding the button and then letting it go.  If you tap the button it will ignite/retract the blade.  If you push it for more than 1 second, it will change the flicker/pulse speed.  More than 2 seconds and changes brightness level and etc.  The inners of the saber hold a little motor that makes rumble feedback when moving the saber or striking with it.  It feels kind of an xbox controller with different speeds of vibration.  It's a nice driver and works perfectly with the hyper set.  I welcome very much these features and love to play with them.

SOUNDS:

This is, I think, not the best aspect of the saber.  Dont get me wrong, sounds are nice and loud.  I haven't had time to compare them to the
movie for accuracy, but i will and update this review with that.  Now why I say not the best aspectt?  Well I find i have a little difficulty trying to
trigger the movement sound and the clash sound need a really good smack to trigger.  The sounds are deep and menacing, very low tone, and very loud (which is surprising cause there's no holes in the bottom of the hilt, where does the sound come out??? this is master Yoda's secret hehe) The start up sound is the loudest, and it surprises, i like it very much, the movement sounds are really good and loud too, a little bit short IMO but ok.  The clash sounds are nice and they sound like they are melting metal.  The idle hum is the one i like the least, it is somehow a little bumpy when cycling the loop, and you can notice where it starts/finish, it is very low tone and deep. I like it.  I've been playing with the saber and found that i can learn how this behaves and also learn how to move it to get the sounds i want, and how to move it to trigger them.  I was a little dissapointed about the sounds and the triggering of them the first time i used it, but now, after one more day of playing with it I like them more and more.  It's very different from the MR stock sabers and it seems to me that the movement sounds change pitch acording to the speed of my movements.

-----

OVERALL:

I think the saber is great. I love it and will put it in the center of my collection display (once i get one hehe)  I see minor drawbacks like the idle hum sound and the two gaps, but considering those two gaps are there for me to duel with it (which i havent done yet) then i accept them and embrace them, cause i want to duel.  I wont be duelling to hard with it anyway, and mainly it will be my prize saber and a display piece.  The blade brightness is awesome, really good. The sounds are loud and presumably accurate.  The hilt is awesome and it's weight is right and it is perfectly converted by a true professional.  Overalls I am really happy with the saber and planning on updating this review with lots of pics and new info as i have time to do it.  I would recommend the hyper system fully, but the catch is that it is a little expensive, but in my opinion: if you have the money go for it, you wont be dissapointed.  Now I understand why comparing this system with the luxeon system is not in order.  I mean you can compare prices, brightness etc.  But they are two different saber systems aimed at different markets.  I have 3 luxeons and love them, they are the sabers I use the most.  I have stock Fx's and love them too! They are my display pieces.  I've even got the need to complete the Fx collection.
So this is a nice add to my collection and I am happy with it.

I will be adding more pics tomorrow, i have a free day and the time to do it.

Thanks for reading.

now for comparison, the hyperdyne vs a luke rotj, a luxeon luke rotj, and an anakin rots.
Note that the luxeon is not made by Ultrasabers and does not have the ultra fiber optic blade.
All of the sabers had fresh batteries.   And because i found the difference on the sabers' brightness hard to photograph i decided
to take some pics from a distance and that way everyone can see how much light each saber throws.

What sounds does it have?  Man that is just so cool.  I wish Yoda had been doing these conversions when I got my Hyperblade.  I wouldn't have ended up butchering the blade boards.

Thankyou guys, i am pretty excited.

Darth Maul: It's the L4 sounds. which ones do you have?

Haven't even heard or ignited thea saber yet.

I am waiting for the battery to charge. OMG i am going nuts, and i have been working all night just to go to the airport 9 in the morinig, pick up the saber and come home to stare at the red led waiting for it to turn green, but it is still 2 or so hours away.

I better get some sleep.

Hey R2-D2
Glad to know it has arrived safely and I hope it serves your collection well.

This is one of 2 "artist proofs" I've done of the Hyperdyne system with
a removeable blade.
R2's is a combination ANH and ESB kit.
Mine is the other and is an ESB set -up.

Because of it's dificulty and current expense I'm not doing any more right now
untill I find an easier instalation method and find specific blade socket parts etc...

However it is easy enough just to make it a fixed blade and simply stuff the hilt
for the DIY people  ;)

But to take it to this level of functionality... at any where between $800 - $1000 per saber
it's not something I can "stock" parts for at this point in time :D

Enjoy your Saber R2 8)

We started this order last Summer and I'm glad to see it finnaly in your possesion ;D
And I think the best part of this is it was like the Thomas Crown Affair to get it to Spain ;)
It went through various friends fo R2's that transported it by plane with their luggage through
SanDiego-Mexico-NewYork-and finally on to Spain.
I can see the people in the Airport handing off this long gun case to each other and having to
explain it's a Lightsaber :D
Good thing you got the heavy duty case R2 8)

Title: Re: GRAFLEX V2 by Yoda of FX-SABERS. PREVIEW.
Post by: Yoda on February 04, 2007, 01:42:43 PM
Yes they are supposed to be the sounds from ANH, more particularly the scenes from on board
the falcon with the clash sounds if I remember it correctly.

I cranked this one out in only 3days so I didn't have a lot of time to compare it.
But I did charge it up fully and test it a couple times for reliable function as it was my
priority to do so and I wasn't checking for movie accuracy on the sounds.

But I'm sure R2 can play it along with the Movie and tell us what he thinks of the L4 sound ;)

The L6 sounds I have in mine are very close for the start up and shut down.
The motion sound is a little short and could be drawn out more but the tone is close.
the clashes are a single Hit and a double in sucession... the second is the better clash ;)

The start up sounds are quite loud for both and the L4 was louder then mine for the
initial start up...

and about 15 min after that it's all just noise :D

OK guys, i've played with it a little, now I know, this thing is BRIGHT, my stock anakin looked like it was off when put next to the Graflex V2, seriously.
And the sounds are nice loud.

But the truth is that i have a bad headache right now, so Review+Pics will have to wait.

I need to play with it more and charge/use the battery a couple of times as indicated by Yoda, to get it working properly.
Also need to compare it (in photo) with my luxs and stocks.

So about the hyperblade: review++pics soon.
About the hilt:  AWESOME, really nice hilt, incredible convertion, super sturdy blade+hilt connection. Craftmanship is amazing. weight, size, all!!!

MASTER YODA your graflex hilts are stunning!

I mean this is a hyperblade and the brightness could seem the best feature in this saber, BUT THE HILT IS STEALING THE SHOW!!!

I love the luke ANH/ESB and this vintage flashgun just made my dreams come true.  I can now hold the lightsaber used by luke. Man i love it.

So off to get some sleep now.  See ya soon.

Vintage hilts are most always scratched up a bit and I do my best to clean any corrosion
and polish them up ;)
Do rest assured I work carefully and don't add any more scratches :D
And they always seem to look better when I'm done with them :)

So, power down for a while R2 :D

then you can do the rest of your analysis ;)

Yes master Yoda, it's an unbelievable convertion.  I love the hilt, it's my favorite, feels so good to hold. Looks so good in the LE saber stand.

And thankyou also for giving me hints on my behavior like:

"power down for a while R2"

Sometimes i feel like human and forget i am a droid  :D

With that in mind: it's my cpu that aches, i need to power down and recharge.

Great analysis, R2. ;)  Thats kinda what I thought about the sounds too, not sensitive enough.  The Hyperblade is quite a departure from the FFX sabers.

Thankyou Master Yoda, i plan on adding to the review as i discover more and more this system has to offer.  I want to praise your hilt convertion once again, cause man! you outdid yourself, it is an amazing hilt and so robust and firm.  No wobble at all.  I love how you can disassemble the hilt and access it's inner guts.  I love the deattachable blade, and to hold the hilt only, it's like having an LE that lights up!! And man! it's freaking bright.  Thankyou, thanks, grazie, gracias, merci master Yoda on such a wonderful saber.

Darth Maul: yes man, that's exactly what i thought. But playing with it more and more I was able to find how to move it and make it do what i want.
Considering this is a system made up from scratch by one man, it's amazing.  There's room for improvement, and that's the great thing about the hyper system, you can upgrade and it keeps getting better and better.  As you say, quite a departure from FFX's but a welcome one.  I love my saber, as i am sure you do love yours.  Thanks on the comments.

Something's wrong with my camera, but i will post the pics very soon.

Anyway, levelnext.. urhmm.. I should start calling you R2 by now..  :D

IT'S SO SWEEEEETT!
*very hard to resist the dark-side of the force is, full of envy I am ;D*

Man, what more could you ask for:
It's Yoda's FX-Saber
It's vintage
It's dual kit
It's Hyperdine system.

It's the ultimate dream saber you're owning right now, the saber that would make every man happy.. every man.

Hahahaha.. so I see, your saber transport was really more complicated than mine  :D
Mine only involved one hub to a friend in Dallas then direct to Indonesia (he also had tough inspections at the Dallas, LA, and Hong Kong airport).
But yours, three hubs? That will be an amazing story to tell to your grandchildren  :D

Yoda really is the best. Top of the top.

CONGRATZ!  :)

Both Vivan (indonesia) and R2's (Spain) Sabers were smuggled aboard various star ships
to reach their final destination... (with out having any "imeprial entanglements")

But like any of my other Graflexs...
it's always worth it to see how happy they make their prospective owners ;D

I was very happy when each of your sabers finnaly arrived to each of you ;)

Yes it is a funny transportation story isn't it :D

Hahahah... talking about funny.
My friend had to arrange an "act" with his 3 and 5 years old grandchildren, telling them to make "as much noise as possible" like crying, saying good byes, so loud and noisy the security check personnel at the Dallas airport didn't want to keep my friend for too long  ;D

When in transit at LAX, my friend even got a visit from the pilot, because the stewardess urged the package to be put in the cargo instead.
But the pilot recognized my friend from the previous "fuzz" and said "So this is the guy with the lightsaber... " and checked him out.  ;D

But like any of my other Graflexs...
it's always worth it to see how happy they make their prospective owners ;D

I was very happy when each of your sabers finnaly arrived to each of you ;)

And talking about happiness your sabers bring to us...
Everytime I get home from work, the first thing I do is to greet your Graflex, saying "Hello there beautiful." or "Hi, gorgeous!". (I'm serious!)
Well it wasn't so long until I got the complaint from the wife, saying "you never treated your own wife that way...."

 :D

I got word from master Yoda, who bid and won on a graflex 2 cell for me, that he is about to complete a saber stand i asked him for, so i will have the vintage graflex V2 either in ANH or ESB style and then a complete vintage graflex "empty" hilt to accompany it.  I also asked him for an emtpy fx anakin ROTS hilt so i can have an "evolution of a lightsaber" hilt display.  I might convert the graflex to Plecter's luxeon, and I might have the anakin converted to Ultra's luxeon.  That would be a nice lightsaber array.  Ultra anakin ROTS, Hyper luke ANH, and Plecter luke ESB.  I was also thinking on making a Graflex Anakin ROTS, not completely accurate but i like the anakin in graflex mode, it just looks better IMO here's a couple of pics to show what i mean:

right click + view = bigger size.

mmm not much  :D  BUT I LOVE CAPS, CAPS CAPS CAPS!!!! WOOHOO CAPS!
hehehe

Thanks robiwon, at this time all i am getting is the 2 complete graflex's, and the empty anakin rots FX, later on maybe i will try to get another graflex, either vintage or replica to construct the anakin graflex.  And I very much should stop there  ;D

But i know someone who likes graflex's more than i do, and that is master Yoda. he's got tons of them.  and that's why he's so good with them.

Somehow is a good thing you are not getting it right away Robiwon, you can wait for hyper to release his new sound board that promises to be really good, if you read my review, sound board was not the highlight of the hyper system, but this new one he is planning on might just be.  Also you have time to study connecting hyperblade system to other sound board.

Anyway, if you decide on it be sure to get the "one piece" blade board, looks just much better without the gaps, i've got the gaps (3 piece board), and just a couple of days i recieved it, hyper announced the gap free board  >:(  so i will either modify mine or get another one (interchangeable blade color would rule)

Yeah, I saw the new LED blade. That would be the ultimate prop for me, and easily the most expensive one. I have no trouble waiting though. When I do have the money for such a thing it will be beyond what is available right now. That thought makes the waiting bareable!

When I do have the money for such a thing it will be beyond what is available right now.

EXACTLY!

But one thing is sure, maybe hyper's system becomes outdated some day, and maybe there will be better systems and all, but a vintage Graflex hilt, will never suffer the same fate.  And master Yoda's work on them will remain.

LOL 3PO you are funny  ;D  How's that graflex working for you?  i bet it's your fav saber.

Master DaJoQuim, it's still a semi-long time till your Bday, but you are certainly in for a nice treat, as C3PO can say, as well as me.  You wont regret it and i can forsee it will immediately become your favorite saber in your collection.

Master Yoda: once again thanks on your excellent craftsmanship and service and all.  I love the graflexs' you sent me, i even have the "not working" ANH hilt here with me at work! i cant put it down.  But everyone here at work love's it too, i might even get another customer for you!!!!

I have only 2 sabers. A stock Obi-Wan ROTS and Yoda's Graflex.
Your bet is surely a winning bet.  :D

I can remember back in High School, there was a local gaming shop that had an Icons ANH on display. I used to just look at it in awe. I was like a deer in headlights. Theres always that thought in the back of your head that if you think hard enough, it just might really turn on.  I could've stared at it for hours......

Some time after Ultras boards is released. It will be a 5watt in Cyan color. Your review Vivan, is the reason I decided to get one. After looking at your review about 15 times I told yoda I was intrested so. By the way you have great pictures in your review!!

Ok so....  now a protocol droid writes better reviews than me?? hehehe  j/k  ;D

3PO's review is excellent and yes i agree those pics rule.  And just as he (3PO) said Chewbacca's review was key for me to get a graflex made by Yoda.

I was going to post more pics of the saber today, but i left the cd with them at home (i'm at work), so tomorroy i will post them, along with some of my new crib.

And also:  this is my 1000th post!!!!

I think the only thing left for your graflex fetish is one of those cutaway sabers. Where you can see the inside.

Title: Re: GRAFLEX V2 by Yoda of FX-SABERS. REVIEW. (EVEN MORE Photo UPDATE)
Post by: levelnext on April 19, 2007, 06:29:03 AM
Hey there pianoman,  well battery life on max power is about 7 - 9 minutes.  Not much really.  if you put it to level 3 - 5 it lasts about 30 - 40 minutes.  in level 1 it lasts almost an hour.    It takes about 2 hours to fully charge.    and i guess it depends on how many times you fire it on and off, and the effects like flicker and pulse, or the clash flash.    good thing it is rechargeable, if it wasn't i would've spend hundreds on batteries by now  :D

How bout this one?:

(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi112.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fn178%2Flevelnext%2FIMG_5594.jpg&hash=fab62ce682db92ce3d1121987964fe33332ab4c0)

I cant take pics of it right now.  It's easier to get the white core into the pics with this saber.

or check this one master yoda took:

Actually Is the blade a solid color like MR sabers?

Yes it is a solid color LED strip type like the MR, BUT!!!!

Because Hyper uses brighter and better LED's it has a very Light blue Look to it espcially whe used with
His recommended Nylon Tube as it diffuses well.
The off casting looks darker simply because the inner color is so much lighter.
This starts at Level 4 and up... 1-3 do look more MR like even though they are still about twice as brignt
as an MR even at the lowest levels.

Also His LED's are much more consistent in color and brightess individually and are better matched.

I don't have any weak or over powered LED's in My hyperdyne and now that he will have a one piece
display blade, they will look very uniform and very bright.

Hope that helps a bit to explain the way the blade looks 8)

I have also given my recommendations to Hyper on methods to make the blade and recepticle a
quick disconnect style, so if he can get thet worked in-to his system it will make swithing from a dueling
3piece board blade to the 1 piece display type much easier and will be a step in the right direction
of the evoloution of His Hyperblades.

check out his store to see the blade options svailable ;)

Yeah I saw the one peice blades. He even put an extra led over the joint on the boards. That was a good move. Now I just need to see if his blades will work with other sources of power. It would be a great display peice. But if a 5watt is near his brightness, then I may just use a 5watt lux instead.
