Nano Biscotte v3 Fried amp again
« on: November 05, 2017, 02:52:52 PM »
Hey folks,

finally got to rewiring my NBv3 last night, after sending it in for an amp repair. Of course, my soul dies as I power is up, hear that crisp light meat thrum, and then hear it fade to black. At this point, it Is probably easier to use an external amp instead of paying for a second repair that may just fry again. Can anyone recommend one?

What your board setup ? recharge port ? was that on the bench on inside a saber ? Is that a board that was sent to Michael or myself for repairing it ?

Finally, some pictures would help too

Board was set up on the bench. I had 4 NiMH batteries to supply 4.6v, a TCSS bass speaker, and a tactile switch connected. No LEDs were plugged in. The power and ground were wrapped in Electrical tape as a precaution. Repaired by Michael.

Pictures.

I'm sorry to say that both your solder job and wire stripping are quite bad
Not 100% sure from the pictures but it even seems that the amp cracked to the point you lost some part of the package near the edge of the board.

Finally, I'm wondering why you're using NiMH batteries instead of li-ion. They feature a high ripple doubled with super low energy storage compare to li-ion. Finally, 4 NiMH batteries WILL exceed 5V when fully charged as the elements go up to 1.6V which gives 6.4V to the amp. No wonder why it has fried again.

Alas my eyes are getting quite bad. I need to get me a magnifier of some sort.
I grabbed the rechargeable AAA pack because it was on hand to test the board. I use an 18650 on my NBv4. They aren't fresh, but if they fried it, sucks to be me.
Not sure how that would have cracked it though.

Was mostly throwing this together with spare parts for my boy.
I think I will try to salvage it with a 2.5w mono amp.

Thanks for taking a look.
