How do you replace the beer tab on an original Graflex?
« on: April 20, 2017, 01:51:33 PM »
I have a vintage Graflex upper tube that has some moderate corrosion and wear.  I'l try to gently clean up the brushed nickel plating with 000 steel wool, but the beer tab has orange rust on it.  I have a replacement beer tab from TGS, and I can see that the original rivet is very precisely crimped so that it sits flush with the inside of the tube.  How would one go about removing and replacing this rivet?

Well, it looks like TGS has a screw replacement for the rivet.  Still it would be nice to know what others have done.

You will need to get in there with a Dremel to grind off the slight rivet edge and use a small punch
to tap/push it out. You will want to go slowly tapping it out from the inside so you don't deform the
outer shell.

From there you can either leave it open for an ESB or add the replacement parts which may need to be
tapped for a screw.
