Ok, without spoiling too much of part 2 of my review, I will say this.
The Maul does sound like it has the same sounds as the Vader, this is true. I was also disappointed to see that it also only has one clash sound. With an almost 10 minute fight scene in the movie, I was expecting more clashes.
However, sounds aside, this is overall, one very nice saber. Master Replicas has truely redesigned the Maul with alot of new features. The slimmed down hilt size and AAA batteries can only lead the way to smaller, more movie accurate hilts. Who knows? Maybe even a smaller Yoda? or even a Dooku? With the direction MR is taking, I think we will be seeing alot more FX's in the future years.
As for dueling, yes, it IS more durable. When I use my double vader, I can feel that the blades on either end are rather "wobbly." This has been greatly reduced in the full maul. I believe MR is using a thicker poly tube for the blade, because there is considerable less "wobble" over the entire length of the unit. Also, when striking them together, you can tell by the sound signature that the material is stronger than in the past.
OVerall, I am glad to have the Maul. It looks killer, and is an awesome addition to any collection.
But alas, I must get back to my review. Should have it finished soon!
