I agree with you completely. It is the best FX ever made thus far, IMHO.

That may change though when MR releases their new sabers this year though. If they have the true movie accurate sounds that they claim they will, then I see the Obi-Wan being surpassed.

But that is a good thing as I want the sabers to get better and better with each new year.

Enjoy your Obi-Wan, I know that I love mine.

BTW, it makes your Anakin's blade look like crap, doesn't it?  ;D

Hmm, well I didn't want to start a new thread so I guess I'll ask here if that's okay. I just got my obi and their is a slight problem on the craftsmanship. The switchbox is slightly tilted. Not much, but it is very noticable. Does anyone know how to loosen the switchbox, move it straight, and tighten it again?

By the way, I like the nice short review  :)

It's the brightest MR yet IMO. Brighter than Luke ROTJ.

I know, everywhere I look people are raving about it and I just can't decide between that or upgrading my Luke to a ROTJ Hero.
Bah, this addiction is a gift and a curse!

I would call MR and get them to send you a new one rather than mess with it.

Yes, the Obi is the best so far.  Definately brightest, loudest and much more evenly lit than the others.

I would hold off an upgrading your Luke ROTJ for a while... no one knows what MR's plans are, but I for one am hoping the re-release the ROTJ saber; if they are going to do movie-accurate sounds, the ROTJ saber would be the best to do, since it's most distinctive.

Also, the hilt for the current ROTJ is probably the worst - lots of plastic and it just feels like a cheap toy compared to the others (especially the Obi).

Since the ROTJ was never in wide release, I'm hoping MR gives this saber a much-needed upgrade.

Reguardless, it will still be made out of Aluminum, unless they decide to go chrome this time around. And it will still have the fat neck as well.

But...if they came out with another with the REAL sounds for it, I would buy it in a heartbeat!  :D

I'm not sure MR would send me a replacement, I have the Obi out of the box, so it is scuffed on like the surfaces you set it down on (the pommel namely). Maybe they would, but I think I can live with the tilted switchbox.

They will take it back, call and email them. As long as it is a factory error and it hasn't been over 45 days since you bought it, you won't have any problems :)

Yeah, but I have horrible patience. With the shipping of it all the way to MR and all the way back up to Michigan.

I know if I didnt send it back now it would bug me everytime I picked up the saber, knowing the control box is tilted. But I know what ya mean, you waited to get the saber you dont wanna send it away and be without it now!

Although the tilt isn't that bad. The tilt is toward the thumb on my hand that turns on the saber, so it's kinda convienient.

I'm in Chicago and when I got a replacement it took them about 3 days :)

I'm in Canada and I got mine 3 business days after I emailed them. Great people to deal with. Not all Obi's are bright one's though. My new Obi isn't even as bright as my Anakin but my other one is almost twice as bright. I'm thinking the really bright Obi's may not be the norm. The only question is why some would have brighter LEDs than others. Shouldn't they all be made to the same specs?
Title: Re: Obi Wan for Christmas
Post by: Mojo_LA on December 27, 2006, 03:29:46 PM
My Obi Wan is maybe 10-15% brighter than my Anakin.  I bought them about a month apart from each other, so they are both late models.

Most people do report the Obi is the brightest saber, but twice as bright would be a lot.  I'd guess that means either you have the best Obi on the planet, or an older Ani, or maybe the batteries in the Ani aren't as good.

My obi is twice as bright as my buddies Ani, he wants an obi too. We compared them with fresh duracell coppertops in both. Yeah, after x-mas, I stocked up on those lol.

All my comparisons are made with brand new powerpix. I realize that brightness depends on batteries. (Not that dumb yet). One of mine is actually about twice as bright. I'm talking bright enough to almost have a white looking core. The other is a little dimmer than my Luke ESB.

Wow this topic sprouted a bit

Sucks to hear about the tilt on the power box thingy  :(

Put my Anakin to shame... DEFINITELY!

I love the weight the sound and most of all i love the emitter it is so sweet!

it also doesn't carve up my hand like my Anakin

I also totally agree with  The Luke. I cant stand the ROTJ Luke
the only cool thing about it for me is the green blade. I haven't felt a hilt this solid since  i got my 2 lord of the rings replicas.

The only problem i'm having iwth it is that it has some power issues like it wont turn on sometimes :'(

but if i fiddle with the battery back it does get better... any one else experience these problems?

and ive ha dthis problem with my windu as well and my anakin
where the sound is like weak and like all crackly  i just fiddle with the power bok and it works again ... it's odd

oh well obi still gets a 10 / 10

Meh, I kinda like the tilt now. I realized after spinning it around that the tilt gives my lower hand a little more room to grab making behind the back spins easier. I think it's a positive now :)
Title: Re: Obi Wan for Christmas
Post by: Mojo_LA on December 29, 2006, 01:47:42 PM
Maybe it only happens after a lot of use, but the switch on my Obi is REALLY sensitive, meaing it slides up and down VERY easily, with the lightest touch.  When spinning, it's very easy to brush the switch and have the saber accidentally turn off.

Can anyone think of a way to give that slide switch more resistance?
Title: Re: Obi Wan for Christmas
Post by: Shade Valryn on December 29, 2006, 03:51:51 PM
Hmm, I actually like the switch placement because I rarely ever bump it and activate/deactivate it. I don't know how you did it... either way, I'm not sure how to reinforce the switch to make it less sensitive other than to raise up the metallic walls around the switch using like some kind of small rubber walls, just a thought.

im surprised you actually hit that switch on accident. where is your hand placement?
Title: Re: Obi Wan for Christmas
Post by: Mojo_LA on December 29, 2006, 07:21:07 PM
when spinning and engaged in heated practice, my hand is all over the thing!

And when using both hands to duel, it's hard NOT to hit the switch!

sure.  This is the correct way to hold the obi-wan IMO.  I never have any on/off probs.

For a righty using both hands, Place your hand on the saber as showed in Picture 1.  Then slide all the way down so your thumb is just above the on/off box.  Then place your right hand above your left, and slide up a bit so your thumb is on the "copper" part of the saber.

For a lefty using both hands, place your hand on the saber as showed in picture 2.  Then slide all the way down so your thumb is just above the on/off box.  Place your Left hand above your right, and slide up so your left thumb is on the "copper" part of the saber.

did this help? :D

It really depends on what you like, and what your going to do with it.

The best spinning sabers are the Luke ROTJ and the Obi-Wan.
It depends if you like Green or Blue, but i think the Obi-Wan hilt smacks the poop out of the Luke ;D

My personal favorite FX is the Anakin.  It is a Beautiful hilt (my favorite) It has a blue blade (which i like) and it is not that bad for dueling.  Not the best, but its alright.

If you want a singe sith blade, Then you have got to go with the Vader.  The sounds are menacing.  If you have the money, Go with the Double maul.

Its all based on oppinion my friend. ;)

I think I mentioned this here somewhere before. I have found that the bottom of the switch, there is a hollow. Though I have not tested it out, I believe that there could be something placed in there to keep the switch from turning off. If anyone thas attempted this, let us know. :)

i ahve an Anakin ROTS. I'm thinking of getting an obi. My next saber is DEFINATELY going to be the FULL MAUL :o!
If Qui Gonn comes out soon-(Christmass time), i plan on getting that. Then, once i have blue, red and green,(i dont plan on getting a mace unless they make it better), i will probably get a Yoda, Dooku-(if it comes out) and Obi! ;D

-As you can see, i have had this planned out for a LONG time!
