Thanks. I still have to tweak the proffieboard firmware and settings and customise the fonts, but apart from that, it's working, and that's a relief.

...Although it's just hit me that as none of my currently owned soundfonts are smoothswing compatible, I've got to go re-buy the lot again. oh, bugger.

Looks great! It will be fun to customize since you're not in a rush now

nope! the uphill slog strikes back. got the firmware uploaded, config set up, and when I turn it on, it lights up for 5 seconds and turns itself off and moans about a low battery.

I knew I should have gone with a CFX...

Dude, you should probably get that saber figured out soon... if my calculations are correct, the only problems you have yet to encounter are "zombie apocalypse" and "nuclear explosion".

Good news: after a week of trying, I fixed the error with my proffie. yay. Pro tip: 5V and Battery + pads aren't interchangeable.

Bad news: I turned my saber on for the first time, and my gamble of using SMD power resistors for the LEDs floped: the SMD resistor on the red LED blew up. I'm not sure why exactly, it was the correct power and value. I've got some more conventional 2W resistors on order, I'll just rewire the entire array.

I'm so done with this sodding saber now.

This ain't what I remember victory looking or smelling like...

I have no idea why it blew. those resistors should be 2.5W capable, so it should have been okay. I don't know if I've got the space for a conventional resistor array, either. Fun, fun, fun...

*edit a bit later* Okay, definitely something wrong with those resistors, I hooked a second board up and the red resistor got hot enough to burn me. Not sure why, as I'm using the correct values and power the LED calculator is giving me, but it's definitely wrong. plain old non-smd resistors, it is.

So after a lot of screwing around with no luck, I gutted Saber V for its high-discharge cell and converted it to a pixel saber.

And at long last, that works. Final assembly tomorrow, followed by pics in the gallery soon after.

probably a little too late to send FJK that submission email now, huh

I’m going to guess that he wouldn’t be overly amused.

I find your arguments vague and unconvincing.

Quiet! *Slap* And there’s a fresh one if you mouth off again.
