CFX v10 battery life indicator question
« on: March 31, 2023, 03:43:48 PM »
Hey Erv and others,
  I need some help with setting up my three CFX v10 boards so when I check my battery level (18650's) it will show the power level all the way up the neopixel blade. As of now with a fully charged cell, the pixels only light up less than half way when I press the AUX switch to check capacity and do not show anything lit even with 50% left in the cell.
  I read the manual several times, but do not see anything about battery calibration with the boards. My pixel blades are properly set at 122 (two 122's side by side for a total of 244). I have seven packs that I rotate and they all do the same thing.
   Any help will be appreciated!

What are your values for the low value and the high value for “plilh” ?

I find your arguments vague and unconvincing.

also, I'll add that if you use full power to display your PLI on your blade, that will most likely make your cell voltage drop to the point what is displayed... is lower (said differently you're then not able to show a fully charged battery on the whole scale of the blade without cheating on the PLI low/high scale)

you'll find in special.txt some lines dedicated for this :

Code: [Select]
## PLI style - display a PLI over the blade if no OLED is attached (and in ledstrip mode)
## style 0 disable, style 1 solid color defined below, style 2 gradient from white (bottom) to defined color (top), style 3 vintage,
## style 4 Vintage Reversed (green = max) and style 5 rainbow
## additional size parameter for a (more) discrete PLI spread over a fraction of the blade
##bladeplisize=20
bladeplistyle=1
bladeplicolor=Blue
bladeplipower=100

That allows you for setting blade PLI color (either with comma separated RGB or color name) and a brightness level to alter it. Using a lower brightness will avoid pulling on the Cell has you display its voltage and have a better representation of the battery charge level

My plilh reads 3400,4200 in the config file.

And I received my fourth CFX v10 board today from TCSS. Time for another build.

My plilh reads 3400,4200 in the config file.

Standard config show full when Vbatt is at max after charge, not nominal cell voltage. Use the above and eventually lower your high pli boundary that will give you a more realistic idea of the charge level

I’d try 3400,3800 for the values.

Thank you both Erv and K-2S0 for the guiding me in the right direction. I'll give it a go.

Alrighty then, I changed the second value to 3800 and on a newly fully charged cell, the entire blade lit up. I did an experiment by changing the value to 3900 to see if the 3800 went higher than my pixel count and it lit up a couple of inches below the tip. So, 3800 it is.
Thank you again for the direction I needed to go for the values. Lower instead of higher. Learned something new.
