Boy, am I glad I had a 3 day weeked this week. It gave me to have enough time to finally finish my first RGB saber. "The Chameleon". It uses MHS Parts, a Seoul 3.5w RGB LED, and a Master Replica Anakin Skywalker soundboard. This saber was a pain in the rear. But it was worth the hard work that I put into it. I achieved the purple I was looking for by adding a resistor to the Red and managed to get me a nice yellow as well. Too bad my camera doesn't pick up the yellow too well, but then again when to pictures ever do anything justice?
Here are some pictures:

Me likey. I always have a thing for color changing lightsabers and this really is great. Just a question, how long is the saber?
-
Another cameleon in the saber world, looks good.

The hilt is alittle over 12 inches. The blade is a 36 inch Ultra Saber midgrade blade.
-
I like the color changing, a lot! Chameleon is a perfect name for a color-changing saber ;)
-
That's really cool Ri-on!
Very cool indeed!
-
Well done sir! I especially like the light blue.
-
I like the purple color nice saber.
Ill kick myself if I dont ask...Without the resistor on the red what does the purple look like? Is it more pink?
-
Without the resistor, you get a really pink magenta.....a little too girly for this fallen Jedi ;)

Ok thanks for the info I have been thinking of getting one of those Seoul RGB's. Where did you get yours from if you don't mind me asking?

Always a fan of RGB and being able to switch colors ;)
Congrats! :D

I thought the emitter looked kinda plain so I cut a shroud out of some leftover bits I had lying around. Check it out:

Very nice work. Really like the look of it and the color change is just cool.
-
Wow!
Great Job on the Chameleon! Looks amazing!
paladin
-
You have outdone yourself. Nice work!
-
Cool, that's awesome. What do you use for a lens and lens holder, just like the normal luxeon one? Or do you need something special?
Edit: Also, what size resistor, hehehe... I really want something like that....hehehehehe
-
I just used the normal 5 degree lens and holder from TCSS. The resistor was a 3w 250 ohm resistor. ;)
-
shroud looks cool love the color change ability
-
ok, cool. If you don't mind me asking, where'd you get that switch? And is there any chance of a wiring diagram?
Edit: Oh, would say, cyan work, instead of light blue, if one wanted? Just curious.
-
I got the switch here: http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-store/item/RS-143/BCD-PUSHBUTTON-ROTARY-SWITCH/-/1.html
Because it's a push button switch you're pretty limited with the color blends it gives you. You can start resisting colors but that will affect all the blends that use that color. For instance, I resistored the red to get the purple but it also affected the orange. Instead of orange I got yellow. So if you resistor the blue to make the green brighter for the cyan, you are also messing with the purple. But it all depends on what you want. There are other rotary switches out there that make blending a lot more customizable.
-
Hmmm... I wonder if there is a switch out there that you just spin, and as you spin it, the colors change... That would be cool, just to rotate it, and as you do, the colors change and stuff.
if I ever get my hands on one of those LED's and switches, would you be willing to give me some advice on wiring it up?
