Roseus...a very pink WIP for my oldest daughter
« on: June 01, 2010, 07:31:31 PM »
Well my daughter wanted a metal saber instead of the PVC one I made her when I first started (actually the second saber I made) so I decided to put a simple MHS saber together from some pieces I had laying around.

I epoxied the two ribbed/grooved sections into the female adapter so they would stay aligned and also so I could put the switch in without worrying about the threading.  Then I filed grooves in that section and the sections where they meet the pommel and blade holder.  I didn't want to put shrouds on a saber for her that is for play.

The color was her choice.  I had the bubblegum powder left over from a PC job I did for a customer and of course she wanted that (typical 12 y.o. girlie girl that loves pink).  I tried to get her to let me mix up some other colors in there to tone it down a little but she wanted it all pink.  Its hers so I did what she wanted (not saying I don't like the color...its just a LOT of it and I think a little black or another color mixed in would look better).  She loves it and hopefully tomorrow I will put electronics in it.  I will probably put the US 1.1 in it I have because I want to keep the board and I know if I put it in one of my sabers I will wind up selling it.  The blade of course will be pink...what else lol

This was a quick build.  I had the pieces together for a while (well over a month) but decided yesterday to PC them real quick.

anyway on with the pics...

And here is one that is without the flash (though poor lighting).

UPDATE 4-27-2012

Its been almost 2 years since I built this saber for my daughter.  I stripped and sold the US board last year because I was going to put a PC in it.  I never decided on a placement for the aux switch so it just sat in one of my project bins.

Then along came the Crystal Shard and I figured it would be a great board for this saber.  Simple, no need for blaster block or lock up and it will have FoC.

I also decided I wanted to try out a Tri Rebel RBW I made.  It turned out very nice and my daughter likes this shade of pink much better than the other plus its brighter and has FoC (white).

here is the video.

Just last week I was talking about a saber for Jedi Barbie, and HERE YOU GO!!!!

That color is definitely (what us Girly Girls call) Barbie Pink.

While the girly girl in me loves the color, the Grown Up in me agrees that maybe some accent colors would make it that much better.  BUT no one will mistake that saber for anyone else's!

Beautiful!

Thanks...

I got the electronics installed and I got a video but the crappy camera did not show the blade pic very well.  I have a photo but it doesn't show the actual color either but you can at least tell its pink.

here are the specs.
-US 1.1 in lower section set to red/amber mode
-MR speaker
-2.1 recharge port in pommel
-a single protected Li-Ion 18650 in the upper section
-pro light RGB from a Joe Jedi saber with the red and blue in parallel (no resistor on either color)
-5* lens and holder form TCSS
-red ring AV switch hooked to system power (pull the kill key and AV lights up)
-I made the bezel for the AV switch.  I have been making them for the inside so the nut has something flat to screw on but decided to adjust my set up better for a cleaner finish good enough to put on the outside.  Turned out pretty well
-old MR blade that I just pulled from her old saber, it has about 6 ft of poly in it

She should get plenty of run time with the 18650

She absolutely loves it.  now I just have to save up for a special stand from Haloncustoms

oh and here is the pic

tomorrow if I have a nice clear day I will take some more detailed natural light pics.

I am really happy with the way this turned out.  Its nothing fancy but is comfortable and will be dependable and fun to play with.  My youngest daughter wants me to do one like it for her now.  She wants hers to be blue (her favorite color).  I have a color called blue ice explosion which is a flip/flop color (looks black at angles etc) I may use or may use the dormant blue from pbtp.  That is later on down the road though (probably next month).

Great saber, MH. Looks perfect with the pink blade. Gotta love girlie daughters (I know I love mine ;D).

I'm really interested in that "blue ice explosion." You got pics of it anywhere?

Excellent work! I made a similar pink bladed saber for my girlfriend as an Xmas present last year. It was my first custom & consisted of an MR Yoda hilt with a customised emitter guard & pink sheeps leather grip, a Joe Jedi clamp, an RGB luxeon for the pink blade & a latching push button switch. It runs on the stock soundboard & battery plug.
The work you've put into this gives a whole new meaning to the term labour of love. Makes me feel guilty that I didn't do a lot better with my girlfriends one.  :-[
Beware the Mark of the Gungan! :o

This is the color I have.  I bought it when they first put it out and decided not to use it on the bike I PCed and went with a bright red instead.

Redheads should stay away from pink, yet they always go there....  ::)

And MH, I can't wait to see your Ice Blue Explosion saber.

the only problem with that blue is that on small parts such as for sabers they look very dark (more black) unless you are in the sunlight.

I am leaning more toward the dormant blue from PBTP

http://powderbuythepound.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=46_113&products_id=1789

but it really depends on what my daughter wants...as with this one I will let her decide the color.
