Jasher Kain's Luke ESB
« on: June 04, 2008, 12:20:50 AM »
This was my...hmmm...let me think...oh, yes...my 6th saber.

When I got it, I was excited. I had always loved this saber and couldn't wait to open it up. It was a gift for my wife and she was excited too.

Then we opened the box.

Aesthetically pleasing, but fat. VERY fat. Luke one-handed this puppy in ESB (which is how he lost it...twice). But you can't one-hand this sucker...unless, of course, you're Kobe or KG.

Other problems:
1. The grips. Aren't they supposed to be rubber? Sorry...plastic. Yuck.

2. The switch. This I don't get at all. Why the eye? Why an up-and-down switch? I feel like I'll break it if I don't use my whole thumb to switch it on and off.

3. The blade. Wow. Talk about dim. And this bad boy needs *6* (yes, 6...S-I-X) AA batteries. Where is the power going? Certainly not to the LEDs. An entropy crisis indeed.

Anyways, I scored an original Graflex from Jetsaber (thanks again!) and I'll be sending it to Yoda for custom work. And you know what? It'll be just as expensive as buying this Masters and sending it to UltraSabers for an upgrade.

Again, if you're interested...PM me.  ;)

I just picked one up last week.  Good sound, very bright..but I also find the hilt to be a tad fat.  Regardless.. i love this saber!

Yeah, a lot of people like the Luke ESB. I've never seen one in person myself, but I know it's fat because it's an old saber, and they hadn't refined the technology enough to fit all the electronics into a smaller hilt.  :-\ I don't know what to say about the plastic grips, though. That would probably be the biggest turn-off factor for me.

I'd hold onto this thing if you ever wanted to convert a Luke ROTJ into a V2.

In regards to the SIX AA batteries...

That battery pack (or any 6AA pack in an LED MR saber) is a leftover from the EL types.

Basically, the EL sabers require 9V to run the inverter and light the blade...

MR got lazy and re-used that configuration up until 2005.

Tee battery pack for the Luke ESB is actually TWO 4.5V circuits ran in parallel. This means that the voltage stays the SAME as the current is DOUBLED. The give a little longer runtime than the 3AA models in the more recent sabers.

Also, the ESB was the 2nd ever LED saber from MR, and has a little different setup and lower quality LED's used in the blade.

Actually my Luke ESB is a 2007.  It only takes 3 AA batteries.

That's what I was thinking, there's no such thing as a 2007 ESB model unless someone modified the 04' ESB model to have a 3 AA battery pack.

2010...I certainly hope it's better than 2009 was! ::)
10/10/10~Well, so far with my Father's passing away, I'd say that this year was actually worse than 2009, even the fact that I now have a full time job (For now) isn't anywhere near enough to make up for that...so...maybe 2011 will be better? I'm not holding my breath... ::)

I guess you're right.  They just gave it to me in the ESB box.  I bought the show model for cheap since it was one of the last ones.

My apologies.  I bought my nephew the Yoda last week and decided to pick up one for myself. :p

You'll find Yoda's Graflex conversion to be far superior. It's hefty and solid, got nice rubber grips, and a beautiful chassis. It is truly a piece of art. You can check out mine here http://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/index.php?topic=12710.0.
