Title: Fringe - CF 4.3 OSPP saber for Djobitwan
Post by: STARKILLER on February 15, 2010, 08:41:21 PM
Hellooooooooo Saberland ;D!

A while back, djobitwan contacted us about making his dream saber. He sent us a drawing of what he wanted it to look like and referenced different sabers that he wanted design cues from. The saber when through some back and forth design changes and we finally settled on a unique, buildable design with strong influence from three sabers. One of the sabers that contributed and influence was the Mace Windu, specifically the grip material. Djobitwan wanted that grip pattern in 6 lathed grip grooves on the hilt. The problem here, was that you can't just go into a store and buy that pattern material. It was unique (that we know of) to the Mace props. We tried probably 6 different methods of trying to emulate that grip pattern, from leather to rubber, poured on plasticoat, to textured powdercoating. Nothing worked for this application, and we couldn't get anything to give that feel or look of the Mace material. So as a last desperate effort I broke out the handy-dandy Dremel and engraving kit and set about the long hand-cramping task of emulating the pattern by hand. After engraving the pattern in the grooves, I powdercoated over it in flat black, then lathed back off the tops. I was suprised by how amazingly close it looks to the actual material (one more notch on the Mace checklist ;)). Dj' also wanted an exposed crystal chamber in a necked down area, but not in a choke, an illuminated flush mount anti-vandal switch and two flank mounted accent leds in specific bezels. Capping the ends of the saber are Acerockets godly Obi-TPM pommel and a custom emitter modeled after a RandomSabers design. The saber is powered by none other than the ultimate in soundcards: The Crystal Focus Sabercore 4.3. It is safely secured on a chassis that is attatched to the custom aluminum crystal holder that holds the raw quartz crystal, and features a swing out speaker mount for easy SD card access (see video below for demonstration) The CF is igniting a LEDengin RGBA 10W LED tuned for OSPP  and Clash Flash.

Quick Specs:

Custom machined hilt and emitter
Acerocket TPM pommel
Raw Quartz exposed crystal chamber
Engraved Mace pattern grips
2 accent LEDs flank mounted
Crystal Focus 4.3 with clash flash set-up
Custom chassis mounted to aluminum crystal chamber with swing out speaker mount
7.4 Li-Ion battery pack with in-hilt recharge
Soundfonts: Hero (Madcow), EP II remastered (lightside), EP III Sideous, Vader (Madcow), Resblade, Ancient Saber

Another slice of excellence! In particular love that emitter...is it a modded BH#6 or a completely-from-scratch custom machined part?

The crystal chamber rocks too and the grips and of course the Ace pommel always does.

Kudos once again and congrats to djobitwan.

Liking the engraved pattern.  I know you guys made OSPP, and it never seems to get old to see it on a saber, especially when you add clash flash into the mix.    Everyone needs to have at least one right  ::)

The roll out section for the sounds to be uploaded is pretty awesome as well.

Not enough meat on the #6 to mod it that deeply, so it is custom machined ;D I have a few erm....practice ones that I did first, but weren't quite right ;)

Thanks guys!

Very very nice- I personally love that Blue LED on the Anti-Vandal (Right wording?) as it just POPS out on that hilt.

Yes I am glad that VV has took the time on this saber, especially the Mace patterns. Thanks you two. It was really fun to communicate and I cannot wait 'til it arrives so i can test this baby out. Maybe even give a video review since I never did it before. Thanks everyone for liking this design. We all seem to like these glorified flashlights and all it can do is get better and better every year.
